SL Merry Go 'Round and Etiquette
I hate the SL shuffle that happens after each round and am looking for some help/feedback on how to handle this issue.
After a round the other night where I was SL (my first time guys, sorry), I enjoyed working with the squad we had and asked if someone else wanted to SL. Another one of the guys volunteered, but as far as I know there's no way to designate someone as SL from within the squad. We kept trying the Leave/Join technique but managed to lose some of our squad guys when other people on the server filled the squad to 6 before guys could re-join. It was a pain. So: Is there a quick or better way to set someone as SL? Does anyone else feel rude when they're leaving/joining/leaving just to avoid being SL? What's the game logic to determine SL? Is it the last guy that joins? Alphabetic? Should there be a SOP to lead a squad - like announcing to existing squad that you're creating a new squad named "whatever" and squaddies should form there? Thanks for any ideas. |

Re: SL Merry Go 'Round and Etiquette
I think the game picks the SL based upon the highest scoring person on the squad. If the SL leaves between rounds, it's the person that scored the highest during the previous round.
I don't like it when people play SL merry-go-round. Everyone should take their turn. I've only been SL a few times and don't particularlly care for the role (I hate having to hide out while everyone else gets to run in and fight!), but if I somehow get promoted I'll try my best. If I start a new squad because the others are full, I won't leave and rejoin immediately after someone else joins the squad. I just figure that it was my turn to lead and go about doing my thing. I'm starting to get the feel for the role after doing it a few times and paying attention to what others do. Last night on FuShe, my squad was tasked with attacking heavily defended Chinese flag.. Our armor got destroyed, but the enemy still had a couple APC's and a tank rolled up as we were deciding what to do. I could see that it would just be suicide to attempt to take that flag, air support wasn't around, so I said something to the commander and got us reassigned to an easier to capture and hold flag. (ended up accidentally switching teams as I was trying to look at my squad's kit layout, and decided that was my cue to leave for the night) Previously, I would have just had the guys rush right in and get mowed down... I guess I've learned to try to watch out for the squad members and think a little more ![]() |

Re: SL Merry Go 'Round and Etiquette
Another option is to let everyone except the desired SL leave the squad. The desired player will become SL and then everybody rejoins. Since the player volunteered to be SL, it shouldn't take long to do this.

Re: SL Merry Go 'Round and Etiquette
Agree with Perry. I don't like it particularly but I've been doing it more often to get out of the constant ducking in and out of squads that seem to happen so often.
Actually getting alot more comfortable with the role lately as well. Only real complaint I have is when the commander is in my ear too much and I can't relay orders or get feedback from my squad. Not trying to gripe at commanders either, since they're trying what most people won't. Just wish they would use the B key more to speak to specific squads.

Re: SL Merry Go 'Round and Etiquette
I think the main reason people play merry round with the SL role is that its kinda stressful due to the fact that your performance accounts for 5 other guy's fun. Once ya forget about that the role becomes much more fun.

I'll second that Faultline...Commanders it's hard especially if the you have a talkative squad or your in the midst of a heavy fire fight. Too much comms or irrelevant comms is mental overload for me. I'm trying my best to lead and teach new people the rules in the hopes of better game play in the future. I too got tired of the SL in SL out...If your looking for a great game the best thing to do is make it a great game by leading. On the point of SL see's no action so I don't like...I think at first when your getting comfortable, yes stay back but once you get better you can get right in there just make sure to task a good medic to your back. Or play defence this is easier when learning SL, the guys can always spwan on the flag if you die. Defence is wicked fun if you have good creative squads attacking. Lots of action to be had.

*not tested*
I believe it goes to the player who had the highest "teamwork" score.

Re: SL Merry Go 'Round and Etiquette
Lol I had a couple nights where I got disconnected and would come back trying to get everyone to leave and rejoin. It was like 'okokok 1...2...3... LEAVE!'. And it took 3 or 4 times to work, because someone was AFK and of course they became SL.
Then I realized in my infinite wisdom that forming a new squad and locking it was a LOT easier. Too bad it only took 4 or 5 times for me to see that. ![]()

Re: SL Merry Go 'Round and Etiquette
I'm pretty sure the squad leader selection is completely random except for the fact that it goes to the guy right under the previous squad leaders name - how he got there is the random part.

Re: SL Merry Go 'Round and Etiquette
When ever MilesTeg and I are in the same squad we play patty cake with it for about 2 minutes before I just keep it. Doesn't matter who else is in the squad. It just plays with the two of us. Maybe the SL selection is by whoever's tag is the closest match with the former SL. Probably not, but I would laugh at EA's infinite genius if that were the case.
