Interest in CAL style matches/scrimmages?

We've had several CAL style scrimmages with clans in the past and have had some interest by more clans to do more. Before we set more of these up, I wanted to find out who has an interest in these.

A few things about CAL style scrimmages
1) 8v8 or 12v12.
These are on a smaller scale and players may find that this moves away from squad based play. Some players do like this however and it does offer a variety away from the larger scale battles.

2) Just about anything goes.
The object is to win at all costs. This means many of the rules and gentleman's contract conduct is out the window. Vehicle stealing, crack-jumping, spawn raping are all a part of these clan's strategies & tactics.

I would note however that as TG players, we would still abide by our standard of play.

So if you're interested in giving these scrimmages a try, please vote in this poll.

I'm very interested in matches with outside groups, but not with the second condition that you mentioned. I came to TG and continue to play here to get away from those things. Ideally I would like to have regularly scheduled 32v32 matches with like-minded groups, like what we have tried to do with AGE and AGB so far.

I voted no for the same reason as SgtDuke. I like the concept of developing regular scrimmages, but not associated with CAL.

I voted no. No interest in any "anything goes" types of games. If I had interest in those, what am I doing here?

Re: Interest in CAL style matches/scrimmages?

Voted No here as well. In the same way TG isn't for everyone, CAL definitely isn't for us. In fact, our association with it would be a negative in my opinion.

Anything goes would be rough 8v8 or 12v12. On the other hand, 32v32 is big enough to allow us to use our organization and teamwork mentality to our advantage. I think in bigger matches we can stick by our TG rules and still win consistently because we can more effectively deal with those 'unmentionable' tactics with a larger team.

OK, fess up, who voted yes?

IMO, sounds like a waste of time. We could spend that playing each other the way we like to and get more out of it.

CAL style play isn't quite like the ranked servers. There is definitely a strategy that needs to be applied in these style of matches. Many people who like the TG style may find it unappealing, but there are some who like a variety.

It's also a good way to see if TG style can stand up against CAL style.

Re: Interest in CAL style matches/scrimmages?

I vote no for the same reason as many others.

CAL is one of the reason I moved to TG, I am in a clan and played 12x12 and 8x8. I got really disapointed in the play style. The win at all cost type of play style really does nothing for me, It felt like I was playing unreal or some other deathmatch game, I disliked so much that I dropped playing Battlefield for a while. I was lucky to find TG which has brought me back.

The play style in CAL is not for TG its actually directly oppostie what TG wannt to accomplish. All the things that I think make playing fun goes out the window with CAL. actually now that I found TG will most likely quit CAL as it not even half as fun.

After said that I which they had the TG rules in CAL. I think TG should try to concentrate on setting up skirmishes. Also a future plan could be to setup a simliar turnament when we have some advanced mod in place to enforce TG rules in a tournament.

By the way if we can implement the following as a mod it would be cool.

-Fix the squads before start of play. (Prevent Squad Jumping)

-Have jumping drain stamina, one jump takes half stamina.

-Greatly decrease accuracy when jumping

-Create a 1 sec blur and reduce accuracy when going prone.

-Dont allow assets be taking in a base if you dont own the base.

I don't like either condition - small fights, or non-TG gameplay. 'cept for stealing jets. wink wink, nudge nudge.

Re: Interest in CAL style matches/scrimmages?

I used to play CAL style matches with Ghost Recon, but that was another "tight" no respawn type of game. I'm not quite sure why they picked BF2 which seems designed for "epic" action not necessarily the 8v8.

Like others have mentioned I will never be interested in any game that has bunnyhopping.

That said I would be interested in GR3 clan matches if that game pans out.
