Newbie
Ok, I'm fairly new to BF2, and completely new to TG, but so far I like your style.
Now, I'm wondering, you seem to talk about using the in-game VoIP and TeamSpeak a lot, which is it? What's a good time to jump in? I'm completely new really and unfortunately a bit of a slow learner, anybody willing to meet me on the server and walk me through a beginners run of BF2 game mechanics and TG stuff? I hope to be a regular here, you guys have exactly the game play I'm looking for. I'm reading over everything in the SOP forums now, but it'll take a few re-reads and eventually putting it in to practice to get it fixed in my head. Thanks all. |

Re: Newbie
Welcome to TG!
We mostly use the VOIP, but several people idle on TeamSpeak in case they need to talk to an admin or something.. And for between round trash talking. But, yea, the VOIP is the most important. Jump in when we're playing a city map and the server is mostly full. You'll learn really quickly! If you can get on a squad with a couple guys wearing |TG| tags you're in for a good time and we'll make sure you learn the ropes. |

Re: Newbie
The VOIP in BF2 is fantastic (unlike every other game before which tried to have it's own VOIP), so we use it almost exclusively.
However, because BF2's VOIP lacks the ability for an SL to talk to another SL, and because airstrikes by jets are such a time-critical function, we came up with a way for players to request airstrikes via TS. So, some of the more creative players are set up with that and are using it. Check it out here: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/battlefield-2-ranked-vanilla/58463-sls-pilots-get-set-up-call-air-strikes.html and here is the SOP describing the protocol: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/showthread.php?t=58969

Re: Newbie
Thanks for the welcome, I just have one question, what's a good kit to start with? I've been practicing flying on my own local server, and I'm getting better, but I'm far from good. I'll try to be on tonight or tomorrow.

Re: Newbie
The common thing to do is ask your SL what kit he needs. If you have a preference or a speciality let him know (it's all good info, and a squad playing a kit they like is a happier one), but still follow what he needs. All the kits have their own little tricks, so it may just be a case of grabbing whichever and seeing how you like it.
In my opinion they break down like this: Forgiving classes (good all round weapons & kits) Assault Spec Ops Engineer Tricky to play (tricky weapons / specific roles) Anti-tank Medic Support Specialist (you get it or you don't) Sniper

Re: Newbie
Hola, Monkey. Don't take the experience you had with me on Saturday night to heart, heh. I had joined the helo squad because I wanted some human vs. human experience with the choppers, and soon after the SL left. Through the miracle of modern randomness, I got put into the SL position, which is what I absolutely did not want. Normally I lead a squad of groundpounders, but that night I just really wanted to be part of an air crew without the responsibility of leadership. Needless to say, I can't lead and pilot simultaneously to any great effectiveness.
Also, small apologies to everyone who joined the squad once they saw I was the leader. I knew it would happen, but really, the squad was labelled "gunship" or something to the like. Sorry you didn't get your standard Tarpan-esque fun.

Re: Newbie
Blast you Tarpan! I haven't had a chance to work under you command since the day I told you to come visit the forums. Remember that? You didn't even know the name of the server you were on. :-) I did find it odd that you were leading a gunship squad. Hopefully me sitting in a tank didn't throw you off too bad.

Re: Newbie
Nah, you were fine. I didn't know what to do with you, so I just kinda asked "Everything okay, Asch?" every two minutes, and as long as sound (any sound) came back from your end, I continued doing what I did best that night: crash into tall cranes.

Re: Newbie
Now now, we hit a few things, and one of them was even a bad guy once!
Seriously though, I enjoyed it, no apologies needed, even that was a higher caliber gameplay than normal and I enjoyed it. And we tended to get shot down, not crash ![]() At least that's how I saw it, if Tarpan was flying in to things he was doing it whenever I was in TV mode and I didn't see it. |
