What does the chopper gunner see?

http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29408 - now you chopper pilots know how big of an area your gunner is looking at when trying to line up targets.

I think it's interesting. Concentrate on the info provided by the thread starter, not the dopes that responded

Re: What does the chopper gunner see?

No - that's totally wrong.
I've checked this myself, and that's not right. (I'll re-confirm)

The gunner's view is BELOW the pilot's.
He sees from the reticle down a little below the "gunner's view" indicator.

I dont' know how this guy did this test - but it's wrong.

Re: What does the chopper gunner see?

Wow is that helpful. I always thought it was the box indicated by "gunner view" - this is important info.

Anyone supposed that was done intentionally to throw off helo gunners?

Yea, I gotta agree with Strike. However that guy did the test, that's not what it looks like. Frankly, I thought his screenshot manipulations were unreadable, anyway.

Re: What does the chopper gunner see?

u gonna post a more accurate representation ?

I think he may have got the alignment wrong, but the scaling is still informative...where, then, would you suggest the gunner's POV is when on the camera ?

given the fantastically zoomed-in nature of the TV missile view, it would be dead handy for a pilot to know...

Are the gun and TV missile POV identical ?

Thumbs up Re: What does the chopper gunner see?

i think the missile guided camera is just underneath the cockpit if you look on the helicopter just in front of where the turret is there is box type thing and ive found the missile guided camera to be well below the pov of the gunner so i think its lower than the pov of the pilot and gunner

Re: What does the chopper gunner see?

Line up the crosshair with a landmark (the wheel of a jet) while the jet is landed. Switch seats. You'll see that the gunner view is not just a magnification of the pilot view.

I don't use the helicopters too often but I thought the gunner view was so the pilot would know where the machine gun was pointed.

Re: What does the chopper gunner see?

Maybe if you took the chopper and landed on the edge of a roof, sat in the pilots seat screen shot, then the gunner, screen shot, would that not give you what you are looking for instead of trying it while flying?

Re: What does the chopper gunner see?

Finally something I can comment on.

The Missle view is 50% between the Pilots crosshair center and the gunners view center.

Meaning half way between the Pilots crosshairs and what the pilot uses to see where the gunner is aiming his cannon is dead center for the missle view.

Yes, when I get a chance, I'll post screenshots, if someone doesn't beat me to it.

This seems about right. I used to just set the lil box at the bottom up to the armor i wanted destroyed and the gunner kept telling me to go lower. So now i just put the box under the enemy armor and they seem to get good shots.

Re: What does the chopper gunner see?

Ok, here's four shots of the MEC chopper on Oman. The nose was hanging off the roof so I didn't get any of it in the shots.

http://www.webmasterp.com/albums/bf2/aav.jpg - pilot with HUD on
http://www.webmasterp.com/albums/bf2/aay.jpg - pilot with HUD off
http://www.webmasterp.com/albums/bf2/aaw.jpg - gunner with HUD on
http://www.webmasterp.com/albums/bf2/aax.jpg - gunner with HUD off

I tried scaling the gunner shots 50% and overlaying them on the pilot's shot, but 50% isn't exactly right vertically. I could get the crane aligned, but the fence at the bottom would be off. Don't feel like messing with it more.

The centered crosshair on the MEC chopper seems to be down a good bit and off to the left a tiny bit, compared to the pilot's view. Maybe this missle on is on the left winglet? Seems what Ludlow said is right, huh?

http://www.webmasterp.com/albums/bf2/aaz.jpg - USMC gunner with HUD off, note the camera seems to be off to the right of the front gun... maybe the missle is on the right winglet?

Re: What does the chopper gunner see?

During the extensive testing that Lagomorph, Xeil and I did for the mini-gun bug, we DID note that the Gunner TV camera is located on the RIGHT side of the helo's fuselage.
Hence, not only is the view lower and smaller than the pilot's, it is also shifted right by a couple (in-game) feet.

Below are attached 2 pics.
1: Overlay gunner view (hud) with gunner view (no hud). Draw rectangle.
2: Pilot view - with gunner view rectangle drawn in place. (why bother with rescaling? Approximate is close enough.)

Apparently the camera on the MEC chopper is slightly on the left of the chassis.
