Question Got kicked for a one-man squad?

Hey, I need to have a point of order cleared up for me. Today I was logged onto to BF2 #1 and the map was Sharqi Peninsula. I reviewed the squads that were available, but for one reason or another, I decided to start my own squad. There were 6 squads already in existence, so I created a seventh, called "Dice".

About 3-4 minutes later, I had a fellow join my squad (can't remember his name, call him Mr. X). About 2 minutes after that, another joined (this was TG perry). We had a small squad, so we secured a flag that was previously USMC (we were MEC) and sat tight, on a self-nominated defense position, unless the CO said otherwise (but he didn't).

A few minutes later, Mr. X had to drop to reboot his computer, and we captured another CP. Shortly thereafter, I got kicked for not following orders.

What? Not following orders? No orders were assigned...how could I be not following orders?

So I wait the minute or so needed to rejoin the server, and back in I go. I rejoin squad Dice and start chatting with perry, who teamspeak'ed with Bommando, who had kicked me.

Apparently, I was kicked because I was running a one-man squad. Maybe Bommando thought I was trying to get around the auto-kick (squadless) rule? As per perry, Bommando says he issued me a warning; I must've missed it while busying myself with SL type duties. I won't lie about missing a lot of the text that rapidly scrolls past on the screen during a game.

Before posting this note, I went and re-checked the SOPs, to make sure that there wasn't an explicit note about one-man squads. There's nothing, except a caution about locking squads because that will fill up the team's squad limit too fast.

So why did I get kicked? Did the CO complain? Barring the fact that I missed any written notice, I was unawares that I was stepping on any toes (i.e. he didn't say anything to me). Is there a rule about when one can and can't start a squad? Where is this rule posted?

Bommando, I thought about PMing this note to you, but I also felt that if there could be some information of value to other players, so that they don't get themselves kicked unintentionally. So I decided to have the conversation in a public forum. I hope you don't mind.

Dice.

Perhaps the CO asked you to reform on another squad and you did not? I was not there, so cannot say, but failure to follow a COs order for that could possibly result in a kick.

Re: Got kicked for a one-man squad?

Unless the radio transmission failed, and I had no idea that there was even a message intended for me, I'll reply with a "#, Copy" or "this is #, say again".

I always do my best to maintain proper radio procedure. I also do my best to comply with any orders issued, and expect the same from my squad (which they always do, cause TG rules!)

Still mystified.

Re: Got kicked for a one-man squad?

If anyone else was on MEC on this map, and knows what I'm talking about (and you really even care), can you add any light to this? Was there an order to reform a squad?

Perhaps Bommando will visit this thread in the morning.

Heh, would this have come while he was driving the Vodnik, or the tank? The commander's name was DRTHRAX36 - I don't recognize the name - and he wasn't exactly the most active commander I've ever had. Only reason I remember is because I took a screenshot of the PB notice and there happened to be a mutiny going on against him at the time.

I got the SL role after Diceman was kicked and laid down a defensive order at that first point in the city. After a minute or two, we ended up with 5 in our squad and defended that point for a while. I think that DRTHRAX36 stepped down or had a change of heart, and we did get an order to move to the listening post later on.

I do not remember what exactly Bommando said to me any more, so I'll let him provide his reasoning instead of putting words in his mouth. I know there have been issues in the past with smacktards forming one man locked squads and doing their own thing, but this was definitely NOT the case this time.

Yeah I was there the CO asked someone to join up with my squad...he got no reply asked again, no reply then he kicked. That is what it sounded like to me. I am not expressing an opinion here just what i heard.

Ugh, perhaps the IFF bug is rearing its ugly head? I've seen the bug indicate that I'm on one team, even though I'm spawning with my squad on the opposite team...

Re: Got kicked for a one-man squad?

Brilliant, I'm glad we got all that cleared up. Thanks for the info, Bommando. I knew it was something emminently reasonable, I just couldn't fathom what. See you all in game.

Re: Got kicked for a one-man squad?

Ha! I was just about to scold Diceman for creating a thread about being kicked, but now I'm glad it was public. In the future, though, PM the admin and work it out that way.

I H8 the IFF bug.

Re: Got kicked for a one-man squad?

Yes, I have been CO and was able to see the other team's squad on the map. I was about to issue orders to it when I realized that there were TWO Squad 1s on the team!

The IFF bug will be fixed in the expansion pack.
