Noob to TG
First I would like to say that I think this is the coolest environment I have seen. I have played Desert Combat and now I play BF2 (which I am not very good at all except dying LOL). I am very much into the team game. I hope one day I get the guts enough to try a TG server. I have one question.....When getting into a team and getting into a squad, how is it determined what kit you play? Do you just pick your favorite or are you ordered to play a specific kit by SL or Commander? (Hope that makes sense)
I have read the S.O.P's and rules just wondering how squads are completed. Thanks |

Re: Noob to TG
Welcome Drizzid to TG. The Kit you pick in a squad is up to the SL want he/she ask for.

Re: Noob to TG
if your profient in all the kits than just ask the sl "what kit do you need" when you first join, Makesure to let them know if you really suck with a certain kit and always ask permisson or atleast tell the sl before you switch
edit: and a big welcome to you ![]()

Re: Noob to TG
Here's a recent discussion on what one SL wants.. others may be different. When I play SL, which isn't that often, I let people pick what they want then I prefer it if they stay that role the entire map or at least tell me when they change. I'll say something like, "I need a medic and engineer, everyone else pick what you want."
It can be frustrating knowing that I have 2 AT guys, coming up against a tank, and finding out that they both switched to assault, ya know? The key is to communicate with your SL -- if you think your squad may need a support guy because you have 2 or 3 assaults firing off noob tubes, then let him know (ask permission?) that you're switching. Just hop in the server (especially tonight, find the password in the SOP forum) and have fun. There's no better way to learn than playing the game ![]() |

http://resources.bravenet.com/audio_...lair/download/ Usually ask the SL for kit selection advice. However, you can assume if they have no medics,,...thats your kit...at least when you join my squad. Last edited by Malum; 10-15-2005 at 04:14 PM. |

Re: Noob to TG
I do call-outs to the squad during most of my spawns - "Spawning AT on SL" and if I have several secs before spawning, I may ask if we need something dif. Alot of times you pick up a dead guys kit for ammo, and u should let ur squad know.
AND even more, quick and independant thinking *can* (sometimes) work for you if you are confident the squad trusts you and that you are aware of the squads' needs. If you are being tore up by a tank you did not expect, and quickly spawn as engy, chuck some mines, pop the tank, u will likely receive congrats from the squad - but u SHOULD quickly try to switch back to ur original kit. Let everyone know what u are doing and allow them the opportunity to give you cover, suggestions, denials, whatever. This communication and teamwork is what gives TG the rep it has. Try to pick up medic kits to revive your SL and teammates if you have the chance during a nasty firefight. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this behavior seems to be condoned/tolerated on TG servers. On some servers it may not be acceptable.

Re: Noob to TG
You don't have to get cold feet about joining the server. My first couple of tries I played pretty badly and died a lot and none of the regulars gave me any problems. I just made it known that i was new to the game and just learning. When you join a squad i do suggest that you ask for what kit is needed but sometimes it helps just to look at the roster and look at what the squad is doing and it should give you a pretty good idea of what kit you should spawn as. Sometimes you have to do that if the SL is in the middle of a firefight and is bust with other things, just make shure to ask what he needs when things calm down.

Re: Noob to TG
Thanks for all the advice and the very warm welcome. It makes things much easier when noobs like myself recieve that kind of welcome. I have much to learn about proper tactics with kits. I think some of my play on other servers would be considered iffy to TG standards. But the public servers can be tough and frustrating to play. Thanks again
