BF2 Special Forces: Vehicles, Equipment, and Weapons Preview

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/ba...ml?sid=6136764

A sampling of what's coming:
BMP 3 Infantry Combat Vehicle:
(APC with a gunner seat)
Hummer With TOW Missile
Civilian Car
Apache Longbow Attack Helicopter
The Jetski and ATC (groan)
Ziplines

Most of the weapons are unknown to me. But go on, check it out.

Re: BF2 Special Forces: Vehicles, Equipment, and Weapons Preview

I'm not sure I'm going to be picking up Special Forces. Is TG planning on supporting SF? If TG isn't going to support it there is no way I'll be picking it up.

Not withstanding the outstanding bugs that EA still needs to resolve in BF2, I'm still particularly concerned about the zip line and grappling hook and the balance issues they may create.

Some of the things in there are a little gimmicky but really the only reason I want it is for the new maps. bf2 is really starting to drag on me and is getting old.

And to the people that complain about them not fixing the bugs, they have two seperate dice teams working on the game. The one in canada is working on the expansion and the one in europe is working on the patches for bf2. They are not completely avoiding fixing the game just so they can make money.

Balance issues? Can't walk a tightrope, twinkletoes? Snipers will need to be more careful because they'll no longer be able to climb a building and plop down a claymore on a ladder.. We can just climb the side of the building and knife em! I think grappling up buildings and sliding down the other side will be fun..

With all the complaints about airpower and this power and that power, I'd think that a lot folks here would be all over SF like white on rice since it is aimed at infantry combat. And the new maps are what excites me the most, too (well, aside from jetski or forklift jousting...). I may not buy it on release day like I did BF2, but I'm definitely not ruling it out.

The zip line doesen't look as gimmicky as i thought though. It looks like it's one use only(at least i hope it's one use only) and i like the grappling hook actually. The jetski is still dumb but i'm 50-50 on the ATV. Interesting thing is, if that combo rifle/shotgun becomes standard assault weopon for alot of the new factions it could rid us of the noob tube. I'll only get it if TG decides to support it.

TG could put SF on server 2, move the tactical mod from server 2 to the private server, and leave server 1 the way it is. That way all interested parties are happy. Just my $0.02.

The Hind scares me. It carries 6 people and it has missiles and a front auto cannon. You thought the BH was powerful, just wait till you get pounded from above then 4 troops fall in and take the flag. I will only purchase it if TG supports it. I am more excited about POE, www.pointofexistence.com Plus it's free.

Re: BF2 Special Forces: Vehicles, Equipment, and Weapons Preview

I've heard POE mentioned a few times in previous threads. What exactly is it? How is it different than vanilla BF2? I assume it's a mod like Desert Combat was for 1942?

Come to think of it, a DC mod for BF2 would be very cool.

Point of Existence was a mod for Battlefield Vietnam in a 2007 setting fictional conflict over oil in Sudan. I never got to try it but I heard it was good. I'm assuming the same mod team is using the BF2 engine to recreate the mod.

If TG doesn't require the SF expansion there's no way I'm getting it.
And to be perfectly honest, if TG does require it, I'll probably try to find another community before I fork over any more cash.

POE for BFV rocked! Can't believe it was free, and it had everything that BF2 has as far as vehicles are concerned, and they were even better, IMO. They already had a Humvee with a TOW on it, plus some other cool vehicles. I really hope we run that mod here when it's released

Beatnik, yeah, what Faultline said. It was the only thing that kept me interested in BFV. I had played that to death, but when POE was released, I never played vanilla BFV again!

POE was awesome. I have been watching their website and am seeing more and more screenshots/models but has anyone seen anything on a potential release date?

Whats the point of spending money when there are plenty of mods coming out. Beatnik, POE is a great mod. It made Battlefield Vietnam worth playing until BF2 came out.

I think we should just stick to mods. It will be available to everyone and will add variety to our gameplay. Special forces will get boring after a few months, but you won't be able to get your money back. I primarily bought BF2 for its engine, hoping that a good mod community stems from it.

I understand what you are saying but in my mind it all falls under EA in the end. I don't blame the teams, I blame the publisher.
