All Squads full: Switch teams or wait?

Hello all,

On Saturday, I connected to play online for your 'password protected' night.

I joined the USMC side, and all inf. squads were full, there was only open slots on the plane, and chopper squads (which, I wasn't about to play, not having practiced either at all yet).

So, I spawned in a rear base, and just waited for a bit, trying to see if a slot would open up in a squad. I ended up getting kicked (because I didn't join a squad).

I rejoined the server, and switched sides to MEC, and joined a squad there, caught the last 5 minutes of a round, and then played a complete round in one of the city maps (can't remember which one).

My question is should I have switched right away to the other team? I am assuming that would be the thing to do, but please let me know.

I also wanted to say that it was a blast to play online in the manner that you TG guys do it. I just loved not dealing with bunny hopping, and CQB noobtoobers, and it was my first real taste of playing using proper coordinated team tactics.

The highlight of the night for me was trying to take the 'Warehouse' on that city map. We had trouble getting it, and then our squad leader got us all organized with another squad and went in, and cleared it out, it was just amazing.

Anyway, it was great playing on Saturday, and I look forward to other battles with the players here.

Cheers!!

Yeah, I hate when the squads end up like that. You don't want to join an air squad and all the ground pounder squads are full. The best you could do is create your own and wait. You might not be able to switch sides and even so the other side may have the same situation but you can try that as well.

Create your own. Be a leader not a follower

Depends on the number of players. If your team is up to the full 32 or you otherwise have reason to expect that more people won't join the team, you might switch to the other side. If not, just create your own squad and wait for more people to join.

Just make your own. If you're not a good squad leader, it's probably lack of practice, not ability.

Create your own, and if you really don't want to lead, hand it off to someone who joins. I believe I did this last night myself.

You could have joined the air squad and acted as a forward observer for them, or manned up some AA or whatever.. Just communicate and ask them how you could help. When the USMC has a carrier, manning one of the Essex guns can help out the flyboys when they come in to reload and repair. It's better than getting kicked at least.

You can also make a specialty sqaud, such as sniper or specops. During the natural ebb and flow of population you will probably pick up 1 or 2 more players and the CO can start handing you objectives. A few sharpshooters harassing a target or coordinating fire across the map can do a lot of damage.

If the CO has a problem with you in a lone squad he or she will direct you where you are needed.

Great,

Good info, thanks guys.

I will try some of these suggestions if I am in this situation again.

I just didn't want to upset anyone by my actions, and if it was noticed that I connected and didn't join a squad, and was subsequently kicked. I didn't want to be 'blacklisted' or anything by my actions.

Thanks guys,

mojoflow out.

Not everyone wants to lead, especially newer players to the server. Take your time and just let any of the other players know that join your newly formed squad that you'd like to hand it off. Often someone else will step up.

As for the kick... there is an automated script that kicks a player for not being in a squad. Once you spawn, you have 60 seconds to join a squad.

Re: All Squads full: Switch teams or wait?

Another option is to not just join the air squad, but do so and ask if they need assistance. On Fu'She pass a week ago i was in the chopper squad with YerMom and Steel Penguin. We would rotate flying the helo, and the spare hand would do something like grab the mobile AA or grab a jeep and park it on a bridge. We would then assist the helo, even by doing something simple like spotting. Actually we had Ob1one and Dark Viper in the enemy cobra, so the spotting of it from the ground guy was instrumental in us not getting our asses handed to us every time we got 50ft in the air!

As long as you are assisting the squad and not using it as a safe place to lone wolf then it is cool. This might give you something to do for 5 mins until another SL comes on and a new squad is created.
