I have heard some speculation about console commands, but their authenticity is dubious.

However, if you get your hands on a nice free proggy called Battlelauncher, tags get removed automatically. Or so I hear.

The console commands to hide/show the HUD is:
renderer.drawHud [0,1] - Turns the Heads Up Display (HUD) on or off.
