SF armies on Vanilla maps

I Found this on Planet Battlefield. Looks like someone pulled it off.

I think it'd be fun, if feasable, for a change. Some maps would be really different with grapples and zip lines.

Get on the ball man! This guy has a server running and everything.

(I kid, I kid.)

Back on point though, would be interesting if the British SAS decided to show us Yanks how to storm the river on Karkand.

Maybe we can settle that old debate once and for all!

Heh, my deepest apologies. I've been busy working on the original, but we'll be releasing 0.7 later this week and then I want to spend some time completing a first release of Tactical Mod: SF. It will probably be pretty simple at first -- just zip lines, grappling hooks, and tear gas (and gas masks) on vanilla maps. If we have some good games with that then we can try some more involved and interesting things like adding jet skis and ATVs (and forklifts ) to various vanilla maps. I think it would be a blast to move with your entire squad on 6 jet skis across the bay of Clean Sweep or Wake Island, or 6 ATVs across the swamplands of Zatar or the back roads of Mashtuur, FuShe, or Dragon Valley.

That looks really, really cool. ATV's and the other silly vehicles aren't my thing, but I love the grappling and zip lining stuff. Of course, i've never liked vehicles- I'd much rather blow them up.

I can't count how many times I've been in a situation with my squad thinking.. DMN we could easily have taken that CP if I just had my grapple.

Good luck on the .7 duke.. I can't wait to see some grapple/zip action in vanilla.

Re: SF armies on Vanilla maps

It has always been possible. What people don't seem to realize is that this is not SF kits in Vanilla BF2, it's the other way around, Vanilla maps in SF.

You cannot have SF kits on a vanilla server. You have to run a SF server (and therefore have SF to join) and put the classic maps on it.

I don't get why it hasn't been done yet on Server 2, all you gotta do is copy/paste armies from a SF init.con to the classic map's init.con in the server map files and copy that map over. Then put the modified map up for download. (Or just the init.con and have people copy/paste map dirs to SF but that might be harder for non-computer savvy people)

man this would be so freakin sweet for one reason and one reason alone - no more river stand off!!! Grapple up, zip across! And 6 jet skis in clean sweep = <3

It wouldn't help the river standoff much, the only place you can put a zipline in Karkand is on top of the train car at the landbridge and shoot it on the pallet stacks by the landbridge ramp on MEC side. All the other spots it either doesn't reach or isn't elevated enough. Even then it's such low angle that it takes ~10 seconds to cross so you just get shot down.

Grapple would be awesome on Karkand though, literally would add another dimension to the map (vertical )

I guess that a smart squad would grapple up onto a high point, and then use the zipline. And I definitely agree that the grappling hook would be a thing of beauty.
