AGAIN I think... we can take out the AA missiles on Jets but leave the ground AA as it is so ground pounder can be saved by the people mannning the AA

its not really that effective against a good pilot unless you have 3 different AA stations being manned. You need a pilot to be chased by another to keep him occupied so be doesnt bomb 24/7

NO! Dogfighting in 1.2/1.21 is awesome now. No more flying around in circles for ages waiting for the other guy to get tired. Now you have to be constantly watching out for enemy jets. You have to outthink your opponent and work the skies to win.

Again, no f'ing way. Jet combat is the best change they made in 1.2. Keeping the missiles in gives even newbie flyers a chance, if the good pilots mess up and unlike the vanilla missiles you don't have to figure out some arcane 'trick' to use them. Taking them out means only the few who have mastered the guns will have any chance in their air.

ADDENDUM: Seriously guys, the pre-1.2 dogfighting in jets was just ridiculous. 1.2 completely changed jet combat. The new way is a lot more fun once you get used to it. Sure, you get shot down more often, but whatever; think about how the ground pounders feel when you bomb them to death over and over. Stop flying around like it's 1.0 vanilla and you'll survive longer and have more fun. Hint: don't just fly around at the 200ft optimal bombing altitude, fly at 10, or 600 and pick your targets ahead of time.

I don't think the 1.2 changes work well with the tacmod though, although I've never thought jet combat works well in the tacmod (*cough* flag strafing, runway camping) and jets should probably just be removed entirely.

ADDENDUM 2: Ed's just bitter that I shoot him down all the time.

Im awful in the planes, but I cant really understand the problem you guys have with the missiles. I feel they were rediculous prepatch. Waay to easy to dodge, whereas a real missile should have a turning circle that is smaller then a plane's. And with the throttle being so slow, and stalling way too rare, no possibility of getting into a spin unless you hit the ceiling, no blackouts/redouts..... there isn't any FLYING skill in the game at all I feel. I have Il Sturmovik, and.... no plane in the battlefield series feels like a plane at all.
Hmm seems i've gone slightly of topic...damned Ufo's (wouldn't call em "planes") I'd be inclined to just boot all the planes from BF and replace them with flying rugs since that is how they handle.


Now getting to the topic, I have a question:
Icky (or others in the know)- Is it possible to lower the ammocount of the missiles serverside? One maybe two missiles could work well, without eliminating a weapon totally from the game.

With regards to reducing missile ammo count: it takes about 3 missile hits to reliably down a jet, so at best you have enough ammo to kill two jets in a fighter, one in a bomber. Realistically, you're going to miss with a couple so you have enough ammo to shoot down one before reloading.

If you don't like getting shot down use your flares more carefully, be more aware of your surroundings and shoot the other guy down first. You see a jet flying by? Don't do the 1.0 thing, wave at the guy and go on to bomb that buggy you were looking at; turn around and fight the other jet, or he's going to kill you.

Vanilla 1.0 air-combat was a complete stalemate, any half-decent pilot was almost impossible to shoot down so almost nobody bothered dogfighting at all. I've seen more dogfighting in the short time since 1.2 than I did in all the months before it because there's actually a point now. This thread just seems like a bunch of decent pilots griping because they have to fight to keep their place at the top of the food chain for once.

You are now vulnerable. Adapt or die.

I am going to have to agree with the Jep on this one. Before when I saw a jet on the mini map, I would be oh look a jet if I happened to be somewhat behind him I might even try to shoot him down.

Now when I hear of another jet, I go right after it. As well as being a ton more careful when bombing, coming with higher altitude to keep mind of other jets. Sometimes if there is a decent target nearby I'll just stay by the HQ to avoid the chances of running into another jet.

well choppers camp too, lets take them out too. What about tanks,get rid of 'em. Buggies, who needs them. APC's are just floating troop transportrs of death, totally unfair to me. and ive been killed maybe twice by a boat, totally off balance, just get rid of everything, in fact instead of the tac mod lets all go play counter-strike

I don't mean the jets camping troops or vehicles, I mean jets camping each other. In the tactical mod you need to land all the time to reload, and a landed jet is extremely vulnerable. Jet combat in tactical mod: fly around their airstrip/carrier waiting for the other jet to land, then blow them up on the deck. It's a very effective strategy too.
