Post The totally ridiculous Dive Shot...

Ask yourselves how many times the following has happened:

You get the bid on an open target and begin shooting either standing or kneeling, only to see the target, at an almost leisurely pace, turn to you, take a dive and headshot you.

Apparently bodies in BF2 are made of space age shock absorbent foam, like those they put in "as seen on TV" matresses. There needs to be either a longer delay between changing stance and bringing up your weapon or the accuracy has to gradually return to normal after being upset by stance change. This unrealistic shortcoming is prevalent in almost all the modern shooters.

It's just an animation in the game, they are already in position when they take the shot on you.

I feel you. It is not realistic at all. you would think when doing this ones aim would be a little off.

All and can tell you is practice makes perfect. That and good hardware and low ping really helps out also. Also traviling in threes helps.

"you got a kill damage assits" is refreshing to read when you go down and you see the person that killed you is now done for on the scroller.

I feel you dog.

Re: The totally ridiculous Dive Shot...

One of the main things I pulled out of the DICE interview was that they're getting rid of instant prone accuracy in 2142.

What I hate even more is when I'm down in the prone and someone one-shots me while standing a hundred meters away. Earlier today I got into a CQB with someone (within arm length the whole time) and 80 rounds out of a SAW wasn't enough.

Happens to me all the time and causes me to go into an inchoherent rage each and every time.

It is frustrating to constantly get one-shotted by particular people ** jmaker ** each time you see them on the map, but these people are very good at what they do and should force you to think outside the box to get the jump on them.

Very frustrating except I remind myself that I sometimes get lucky as well with a headshot when I thought I was deadmeat. Looking forward to some of the changes in 2142... hopefully some of those will be backported to bf2 or we may just all be playing 2142 anyway.

Re: The totally ridiculous Dive Shot...

I play with a typical ping of 120-140 and thus often in cqb and situations like this I am dead before I even see the guy that dived to the ground. Whereas I accept that it is painful it also creates an opportunity.

I know for certain that I cannot go into this sort of fight and win on a regular basis. At best I can hope for 1 in 5, but that's not the sort of odds to base tactics on. Thus I have to adapt. I need to ensure that I come in at angles and flanks, that I am closely co-ordinated with team mates, that I use the element of surprise wherever possible and only then engage when terms are favourable to me, chosing to withdraw and re-approach whenever they are not.

It does take some time, and having come back to BF2 after a break it is taking me a time to reacquire, but if I can make this work at my ping imagine what you could do at yours. Use the fact that you are not winning this encounter as motivation to improve your style.

Boom! Headshot!

Just practice alot more using the single shot mode. I've only really started to do that alot recently and it's really improved my play.

Indeed it was; up by the village. We were fighting Mantis' squad, but I don't recall who I went head-to-head with. Too busy swearing to notice.

I've got to second this. I cursed more in the first few weeks of this game because of the same reasons that started this thread. I could see the enemies weapon pointed off to the side or straight up and watch the muzzle blast spray the surrounding area but the rounds were hitting me. I finally started using the single shot mode and doing the same things as the enemy. Also when you go to prone try to move a little left or right when you hit the prone key. Your aim won't be affected but your body in game will dive and roll off to the side making you a harder target to hit. Just my thoughts.

The problem is that you're pointing your head at them. When you're prone, and facing someone, your head becomes the prominent target. Anyone who's a decent shot with the assault rifle with hit you from that distance, most likely in the 3x damage zone. You're most likely hitting them, but in the less dangerous zones, because they are standing and you're not aiming exactly for the head.
