Thumbs up Road To Jalalabad (video and screens)

Since I jumped on the banwagon, as I always do when something new comes out to test, or to play with. I felt obligated to at least record some video for the people not planning on messing with the 1.4beta patch, but were at least interested in checking out the new map. I think this map could be a ton of fun, played in a TG environment anyway. Seems to have a little bit of openess on the western side, which is the USMC side, and a ton of buildings, objects and what not to hide behind, go under or whatever on the eastern MEC side/area. It may not be the new karkand persay, but its really got potential IMO. Since this is a patch, I'm not sure if this map "counts" as part of the patch process or if its "finalized" work. No idea on that part. I think this map brings a few elements from other good city maps, and adds a little mix of each of those elements into this map.

Screens:

16 player size looks like it would be quite fun, as its the part of the map where its only the city area of the map, which is nice, and maybe thats where the "new karkand" comments came from.

16 Map Size

32 & 64 are the same in size, but 64 adding one more CP to the mix, so this may be a map where 32 mapsize will work with more than 32 people.

32 Map Size

64 Map Size

Video, just a 2:30 or so min video, nothing to special, just showing off some of the map for ya guys. Aprox 60mb.

link is good for 7 days.

Let me know what you think about it.

+reppage for my first glance at the new map.

I'm liking that it's infantry-centric. It'll be a good counterpoint to AF.

Re: Road To Jalalabad (video and screens)

Were you the first to spawn at the USMC UCB and sing Talking Heads' "Road to Nowhere" during the jeep ride to the city, changing the lyrics to "We're on the road to Jalalabad?!?!".

No??

Well you should have...

Its a very small map....too small imo. Gameplay will probably be very frantic like sharqi has.

It looks like an urban version of Clean Sweep.

From the map overview, it actually looks very similar to Jibbel City, with the mosque to the north and a capturable flag close to the USMC UCB...

Are there transport helos for USMC?? I don't see a TV station like in Jibbel City, though. Otherwise, very similar layouts...

No helos. Just one or two tanks per side I believe.

Re: Road To Jalalabad (video and screens)

I didnt see any transport choppers although its posibble i missed them in my recon. The northern mosque is a real fort. There is a high wall around it all and one small entrance with very little cover leading to the flag. That will be a complete nightmare to assault.

Naa, it's not that bad. There's two openings on the front side more than big enough for a tank to drive through, and then the small hole in the wall on the back side. On a pubbie last night, we were able to stop a USMC tank and infantry that was trying to take the flag with our tank and infantry. Almost felt like teamwork

Re: Road To Jalalabad (video and screens)

I didnt notice the hole at the back. I just imagined two spec ops and a support holding that place til kingdom come.

Re: Road To Jalalabad (video and screens)

I remember seeing alot of holes in the walls. I really like the city part of this map though, mantis is right about the frantic infantry battles that could go on here. Which is good no?
