How long does it take to load a new map?

I know at least some of you know what I'm talking about.... I know that from the time a map ends to the time the new one is ready to play, I can...

1) Make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or heat up a hot pocket OR
2) Kiss my man a little and tell him how wonderful he is for letting me play OR
3) Use the little soldier's room, wash my hands, and grab an adult beverage OR
4) Smack talk Bommando OR
5) Finish half a sudoku puzzle or half a Bentley Little short story

What are yours?

Mine loads in roughly 20-30 seconds, though its around 15 or lower if the map has been loaded earlier or is being reloaded, but then, I got 2MB RAM :P

I would think that depends on the speed of your HD, for me its about 25secs

Got loads more then that
Im sure its in the Comp Spec topic in the Tech Forum somewhere.
Still RAM is very cheap these days.
A good 1GB RAM cost 100 bucks, thats it, probably even less now.

Re: How long does it take to load a new map?

Yeah, I noticed ithe other night t takes you awhile. It's drive transfer rate that made the difference for me. I went to RAID0 SATA2 about a week ago.. I'll have to check, but I think it is around 20 - 25 seconds.. by the time I get back from picking up a beer it's well into the waiting for commander countdown.

When I went from 1 to 2GB of RAM there was a small improvement, and when I went to 4GB the was little to no improvement - but also it changed from DDR to DDR2, so any improvement was probably offset in latency.. with other games there is an improvement.

Going from 2.8 to 3.6 (Dual core) was also a minimal improvement - but overall the clock speed and RAM amount seemed to do the least for map load times - although, in-game stability improved a great deal.

Just my observation -

I'm a big fan of map loading. It gives me time to:
1) change a diaper and send my boy to his mamma's arms while I play BF2
2) allows me to appreciate Titan Quests' load times
3) Grab a beer and remind Clawhammer how much he sucks
4) gives me a small window for #2's

Haven't seen you around as often Sassy good to see you back girl!

LOL! You must be sitting on the edge of your seat when the previous map is ending!

Re: How long does it take to load a new map?

Usually takes me around 3-5 minutes, longer for Tacmod and AF/EF, for some reason. I think I need to do a defrag or something, but yeah, it sucks, because often I'll come back and find out that I've been 'promoted' to squad leader.

Re: How long does it take to load a new map?

About 40-45 seconds. Generally i can pop to the bog and grab a beer comfortably, even a cuba libre or moscow mule is no sweat. That gives me a minute or so of the commander countdown left.

A long island iced tea is doable if i let the toilet break go as is a margarita. Singapore slings are a little more complex. To complete one requires the use of the death spawner to sprint to the kitchen and line up bottles and squeeze some lemons and limes mid game. Load time is used to compile everything but even then it only gives a 5-10sec reserve in case of blender difficulties. I generally stay away from the more complex styles of cocktails while SLing.

If I do something ambitious like the above for multiple rounds i normally go for a smalller cocktail in a martini glass. At least that way i do not strain my bladder unduly until the next time i fancy something simple and can fit a toilet run into the same load. Tactical drinking i call it.

I got the exact opposite a lot, somehow I always end up being SL and usually I am fine with being SL but often I will give my orders for a flag, set the kits and the tactics and then suddenly hear my squad say: "So, what kit do you want?".
