Exclamation Another new guy

I was referred by troublesome4u, because i thought there is a lack of team effort in some but most servers and i wanted to find a server where squads played a bigger effort. So i came here. And i don't know how to get started, and i'm thinking about just bf2 and no mods attached. maybe i'll start using mods, but I {[think] but i dont know} if I prefer the regular bf2 over mods, ihave not tried.

Re: Another new guy

Welcome! First off give the server rules and SOP's a read, you'll find the link in my signature.

Unfortunately TG does not have a pure "vanilla" BF2 server. You will need to download the "Point of Existence 2" mod. You can find it here: http://www.pointofexistence.com/
That is what the masses are playing these days.

If you prefer a slower more tactical style game the download the Project Reality mod. It has a solid following here at TG and is really fun. Here is a link:
http://www.realitymod.com/

Once again welcome and enjoy your self here!

Re: Another new guy

^^^ What he said. Be familiar with our server rules and SOP would be a good start.

Welcome to TG!

Re: Another new guy

I would definatly advise you to try Point of Existence and project Reality... I've been playing the POE2 MOD since it was released and if you are looking for teamwork... then the Tactical Gamer server is by far the best around! and as previously stated, TG support both mods.
And I'm not a TG member... so you can take my word for it!... not that any of these great guys would be lying to you

Re: Another new guy

This is slightly off topic but I would like to point out that you don't have to pay to be a member here. Being active in the forums and playing by the rules on the server makes you a part of the TG community

Re: Another new guy

wait on the the 1.41 patch.

A supporting member would be,
go to members, left click, click on TG membership.

Can't help with the tech stuff.

Join a squad with a TG tag as SL and you will learn from there.

Have a good'n

Re: Another new guy

Welcome Gamekinbg! If you are ever confused about any of the rules just ask someone in game, over teamspeak, on IRC, or here in the forums. Someone will help you out. Most of the rules are self explanatory. The rule of thumb I use is if I think it "might" be against the rules or even frowned upon then I don't do it.

As to being a member, TG does offer supporting memeberships that will give you a number of benefits such as not being kicked for a supporting member, access to the high speed downloads, and your own web space. The supporting memebrship is by no means required though. If you visit the forums regularly and play on the servers you will be considered a part of TG. That is one of the things that makes this community great.

For the downloads you want the client files unless you are hosting your own server.

Do not install the 1.41 patch yet if you plan to play exclusively on the TG servers. Project reality is not yet compatible with version 1.41 but there shoud be a fix fairly soon.

Once again welcome and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Re: Another new guy

gamekinbg, some info for you....

Firstly, don't patch to 1.41 yet... the Tactical Gamer servers are currently patched to 1.4 as they are awaiting a 1.41 patch fix from the Project Reality team because Tactical Gamer host both Point Of Existence 2 and Project Reality mods on their servers.
If you do patch to 1.41 you will not be able to play on the TG servers untill they have updated.

Secondly, you only need to download client files... these are for players... Server files are for servers.

some links for you....

Point of Existence client files
http://www.pointofexistence.com/poe2full.php
Unzip the contents of the download (2 files) to your desktop and run the .exe file.
If the zip file requires a password... the password is...

..]POEv1.0.0[..]BIGthanksTOeveryoneWHOhasSUPPORTEDus]..

Point of Existence v1.1.5 Patch
http://www.pointofexistence.com/poe2clientpatch.php
Once you have installed POE, unzip and run the patch.

Point of existence manual
http://www.pointofexistence.com/fpn/html/
You will also find this usefull, its definatly worth a read...

Project Reality v0.40
http://www.realitymod.com/
Scroll down to news item named "Project Reality v0.40 Client Files Released!" and choose where to download the client files from, once downloaded, run the .exe file.

Project Reality User Guide
http://prguide.realitymod.com/index....tle=User_Guide
Again, the player manual is definatly worth reading

I must say that both MODs do play differently than regular BF2, Project Reality more so than POE:2... You may or may not like them at first try, but my advice would be to give them some time and learn how they differ from one another... At least if you are on the TG server then you will most likely find someone willing to help answer your questions.

Both the POE and the PR mods can be treated as completely new games as many new maps, buildings, vehicles and weapons are included and the file size of each one reflects this. The POE mod weighs in at approximately 1.04GB and the PR mod approximately 1.7GB.
However it is possible to download the torrent file for both mods using a torrent client such as Azureus (http://azureus.sf.net/) or uTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/) if you can not attain decent dowload speeds through a direct link.

As for the 1.41 patch... keep checking the TG forums as I am sure that an announcement will be made as soon as they update their servers...

Hope to see you on the battlefield, Finestyle.

Re: Another new guy

Hello gamekinbg. I'm glad you made it to forums . I'm sure you will find our level of gameplay here meets your expectations. The mods finestyle listed are whats HOT right now along with 2142 so you'll find most of us spread out. There are always people ready for some vanilla so no worries. I suggest joining teamspeak or checking the server status to see where people are playing. Also you could post in this post whenever to see if someone wants to play some vanilla BF2. So stick around.

Re: Another new guy

TG membership isn't about wearing the tags or paying a monthly fee, it's about embracing the spirit of it. That spirit is however well explained in the Wearing the TG Tags thread.

There are plenty of people who don't wear the tags, and aren't paying (supporting) members who are still well known and respected members of TG because of what they do and how they do it.

I hope you'll enjoy TG as much as we do, and since no one else has said it yet, welcome to the last place you'll play online.
