Dear PR community,
After playing the best mod in the world (Project Reality offcourse) since 0.5 I've always loved the teamwork aspect the most and after the addition of the SOFLAM laser designator for the A-10 and other jets, 'Kashan Desert' 64 became my favorite map.
Now, I am thinking of giving back to the community by doing a huge desert map myself.
My idea is basically Kashan 64 on steroids, with lots of burned out vehicles and open ground battlefield for massive armor battles. With teamplay and tactics in mind.. Based on the Iraqi / Kuwait desert with burned out vehicles on and along roads. Think Gulf war..... Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom.
The thing is... I have zero experience in mapping or modding (Okay, maybe C&C Red Alert )
BUT: The PR community is a very strong and motivated one, and just like while playing this awesome game online:
"It's all about teamwork."
Thats why I am posting this message as a proposal, I'd love to hear what everybody thinks about a map like this.
I think getting started with the
BF2 Editor and creating the map itself wouldn't be a problem, with the help of Rhino's and other tutorials. But the coding and PR-specific changes could pose a bit sticky for me...
*Anyone with the knowledge and experience willing to contribute to this great game is very welcome to help me/us out.*
Here are is my VERY early map spec with ideas:

I'd love to know what you think...
*** If anyone would like to help out or bring suggestion to the table, please let me know ***
Suggestions, ideas and reference material are all welcome.
Note: This would be my first map ever, and I have no prior experience in mapping/modding what do you this my chances are??

ADDED after initial replies:
I see some of you already came up with some great idea's and suggestions and I'm certainly going to use some of those tips.
I am grateful for al you reactions, please keep 'em coming.
Having said that,... My intention for the original post is to: A) give the PR community the chance to help bring suggestions to the table that no one person could have ever though of, thus creating a map we can all be proud of and provide new gameplay to this awesome game.
But most importend: B) Find persons who are willing to help out on the coding and advanced mapping and bug testing/fixing. Keep in mind I never made a map before.
But that should NOT hold us back, after all many player love intense infantry combat but there is nothing like massive vehicle warfare with tank- teams working together and CAS roaring above, striking with pinpoint precision on a team-mates painted target.
A lot of people will love the immense desert terrain and large scale armor and airborne warfare. That's why I know taking the time to learn to map for PR will be deeply rewarding for all of us.
But I know I can't do this by myself. That's why I am seriously requesting everyone who did this kind of thing before to contact me and we'll get this puppy rolling.
PS: As I said, I appreciatie al the great tips. I hate to come of as a hardheaded FNG but I'd REALLY love to start with this one awesome map and not have players waiting longer than they absolutely have to. (not compromising in quality offcourse) Starting of with a 'regular' 4km map is insane I know but a desert map with large terrain specific cap zones, such as a mountain pass, bridge and oilfields is basically a large bucket of sand with two main bases (really basic I know, offcourse there will be many more little details.)
That's why going for the big 4km map doesn't sound al that bad it could/should be done in have the time it takes a map like Muttrah City or Korrengal Valley, with are AWESOME maps but require much more work to create.
So mappers..... help me out guys (insert: Puppy-Look-Smily)
PPS: the assets are not final, As long I get my A-10 roaring from above. (I love to lase them tanks, I never even flown one!)
