You obviously didn't download the tutorials I've said you should download for the past 3 posts or so....

    Here they are:
    http://totalbf2.filecloud.com/files/..._file_id=40580

It tells you all you need to know to get started and see your map in-game.

alright so ive got my map in bf2, BUT as expected on the loading screen it CTD at around 15%

ive got my settings on medium

ive tried creating a lan and playing it, and ive tried playing it in singleplayer
    both crash at around 15%

ill go through those tutorials one more time but I dont think I missed anything

Although you've probably figured this, to create a control point in the level editor right click on your map and create a Control point. It suggests a naming tradition but you can call it what ever you like. You need to change the text as default has special characters and won't accept that.

From them you can right click around the Control point and place Spawn points and veicheles in your base thing.

I'm still playing with Terrain myself at the mo and I haven't tried loading the maps into BF2 but I've read alot of posts regarding problems with it crashing on load.

Singleplayer shouldn't work thought, its not in the BETA. This is probably more to do with BOT control and waypoints rather than generating a terrain though.

Check out this Forum for more BF2editor advise.

I would like a forum on Editing here on TG. Would be nice to see a TG Mod or Mappack. I think sometime like that was gone before either for Raven Shield, Ghost Recon or Operation Flashpoint....I may be wrong there though!

Ace, this dude has posted a tutorial about turning real world maps in to BF2 via photoshop. He even goes into working with surrounding terrain which I haven't even touched on yet. As Rocky from the Rocky Bar advert say "Check it out"

Wushuhero (and everyone else), regarding maps not loading, check this:
    http://bfeditor.gotfrag.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=84

Seems to be you need to reinstall the Patch to get it to load as other people have had the same issue.

Also here for maps not appearing in your list

Re: BF2 editor for the Noobs among us..like me

thanks for going through the trouble mate
I played on it fine through the debugger
now whenever I want to play it i have to go through all this-C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2_r.exe

    but its playable

    NOW onto more questions-
how do I change my map from that grey blob, in battlefield editer when I press show minimap the map looks great but when I go into the game its just a blob, also both my map points are chinese maps, I want a chinese and US bases. hen I check the base that I intended for the US, it says it is a US base

edit for you more advanced modders out there I would like to see some urban chinese cities, and my KC-130

Re: BF2 editor for the Noobs among us..like me

    Surrounding Terrain
This is terrain that you can see but can't get to, like the 3d Sky maps in Half life 2 and the alike.

Take my map here, in this directory are a number of RAW files.
    C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels\Trenches

In there (or your map equivalent) you'll see

HeightmapPrimary.raw <---- this is your play terrain
    HeightmapSecondary_D1.raw
    HeightmapSecondary_L1.raw
    HeightmapSecondary_L1D1.raw
    HeightmapSecondary_L1U1.raw
    HeightmapSecondary_R1.raw
    HeightmapSecondary_R1D1.raw
    HeightmapSecondary_R1U1.raw
    HeightmapSecondary_U1.raw

Now go back to the BF2EDITOR, go into the TERRAIN EDITOR. In the EDITOR window on your right, double click on the SURROUNDING TERRAIN heading. You should now see a BOX made up of 9 SMALLER BOXES. (Some of these may be already coloured)

Have you ever had it when you click on a piece of sky when a message pops and says something like "Do you want to activate this Heightmap" Yes or No. It is actually asking is you want to activate on of the SURROUNDING TERRAINS. Any of those sqaures that are blue means that you've activated them

But you can't see them, right click on the blue square and click show and you should see the lime green sqaure appear next to your map. You edit this in the same way and you can bland (yes thats me) the edges if you need to, to make it seamless.

Not to digress to far, the file above actaully relate to those 9 boxes as my poor representation should show

(~ replaces the word Secondary to make it fit in the forum post)
    [Heightmap~_L1U1.raw] [Heightmap~_U1.raw] [Heightmap~_R1U1.raw]
    [Heightmap~_L1.raw] [HeightmapPrimary.raw] [Heightmap~_R1.raw]
    [Heightmap~_L1D1.raw] [Heightmap~_D1.raw] [Heightmap~_R1D1.raw]

So if you want to edit those files externally then thats the order I believe to go in.

Have fun painting and scuplt it all, it takes ages, well on my PC anyway.

As for water, check this it may be of some use
    http://bfeditor.gotfrag.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16

or this but you may have been wanting something a little more than basic getting water on your map.
    http://bfeditor.gotfrag.com/forums/v...ighlight=water

Haven't tried water myself, I'm finding the EDITOR seems to be running laggier than before ATM and I don't know why.

Re: BF2 editor for the Noobs among us..like me

When i try to make a heightmap in photoshop, the tutorial on Planet BF says to set it at 16bits, so I do but I cannt make any alterations, like using the paintbrush in Adobe because it says it only works in 8bit format. Does this sound right?
