Re: Reality Mods? As if.
In a game like BF2 you do not necessarly need realism comparable to real life. What you do need is realistic comparisons between weapon's.
If a sniper has difficulty relibly hitting a standing target at 200m, then it should be absolutly impossible for an assault gun or a carabine to hit the same target at that range. Yet in BF2 G36C a carbine is usualy a better sniper weapon then the sniper rifles.
A carbine should not be more accurate then an assault rifle. As far as I know (I'm no expert) those things sacrifice barrel length for portability.
A soldier with any hand held weapon, should FEAR going face to face against a prone, established smg. Yet in BF2 you can reliably win an smg vs assault shootout. Same for non armored kits vs smg.
And finaly: Soldiers have built inaccuracy due to randomly displaced bullets, yet all vehicles are laser gun accurate. Don't tell me that a 50cal on a jeep is not going to have any recoil when you're spraying.

Re: Reality Mods? As if.
In terms of the weapon itself, a carbine can be just as accurate as its full-sized big brother. Barrel length affects bullet velocity (which is important with the AR platform), not accuracy. With iron sights, it's easier for a person to be accurate with a full-sized rifle than with a carbine because the rifle has a longer sight radius.

Even if the shortened barrel/reduced velocity doesn't really lower the accuracy, it does lower the effective range. Though, in the case of the M16 and M4 the range isn't very different (550m vs 500m).
