I've used Maya before but prefer 3DSM. One isn't really better than the other. It's just that I used 3DSM first and feel most comfortable with its interface.
Definitely check out 3D Buzz for video tutorials. Whether it's Maya, 3DSM, or even C++ there are tutorials there.

SARC, you rock man & I will do it. Ive been looking at Maya for awhile now so I will probably go w/ it. Are they all compatable with BF2 coding? How long have you been working w/ 3D software or Coding, say C++?

Re: New Battle Mod, ‘Possible’ future Project, Most Advanced Military Forces of Sci-fi
I know there are plugins and scripts for Maya and 3DSM. I think the Maya stuff comes with the map editor. GMax may be supported too. I heard something about that.
I haven't done 3D modeling for very long. I first touched Max 5 about 2 years ago. It's been on and off modeling since then along with a couple of classes. I tried Maya 5 about a year ago and never really got used to it.
Coding has been with me longer. I took my first programming class in Grade 10 and that was about 8 years ago. C++ has probably been with me for about 6 years but object-oriented programming is still new to me (about a year's worth experience).
It's good you have the motivation to learn the skills. It's the one obstacle you have to overcome. Lack of motivation was really the reason I stopped practicing with Maya.

Hey SARC, I have another question for you. After I complete "a design document," what is the process to recruit new members to a MOD team? I would think, that you would use something to get their attaintion first before just exposing every thing you want to do in detail. Am I right??? I may have jumped the gun a little but, I dont know. Are you familar w/ the tool id?

It's a lot like advertising when you're trying to get a team together and stirring up interest. You may be worried that people are going to steal your ideas but it's not like somebody else can't think of the same thing. Reveal as much as you need to because you need to show you're dedicated to the project. Explain the basic premise of the mod and maybe a couple of concept sketches. It's pretty much do whatever you want but the main thing is getting people interested in concept.
What do you mean by tool id?

You mean the map editor? I looked at it briefly. It crashed a couple of times and I lost interest in messing around with it.

So are you looking to join a Mod Team? Are you working on a Mod already? I am postponing this project until I feel it is ready to go full stream ahead. Sarc any other thoughts? I have found you to be a great guide so thank you

No, I'm not working on anything and I don't plan to do any serious modding. I just fiddled with the editor to see how it works.
At this point, I guess it's good luck to you!

Re: New Battle Mod, ‘Possible’ future Project, Most Advanced Military Forces of Sci-fi
well, Im going to take some time to learn the tools & see what is possable. I mean if there are some people who want to start working on this then ok but right now, i dont know. I do not have a lot of contacts yet, who are skilled & my own skill is a bit short of the skill required to do this kind of project. If you would like to tinker with me on it great. I agree with you in that I will not be taking a serious aproach to this (a Mod) right now. Im an Artist but, as you put it I need more. I agree.
