Re: Map Idea: VMFA Carrier Battle Group
Piracy on the open seas is still alive and well in the Caribbean and around Central and South America. Probably around Africa and Southern Asia/Indonesia, as well...

Re: Map Idea: VMFA Carrier Battle Group
I mean in organized warfare. I'm not a historian or anything but has there ever been an instance where threre was an organized boarding party trying to take a carrier? It would be impossible just because of the sheer number of people aboard the ship. Any vehichle that could carry anywhere near enough people to board would probably be fired on long before it got close enough to send anyone. I understand piracy of small vessels, those aren't really what i was reffering to in my last post, but a massive ship like an aircraft carrier? come on.

Re: Map Idea: VMFA Carrier Battle Group
Ah, an aircraft carrier specifically? I don't know. I know that because carrier's have traditionally been rather defenseless (no longer the case), they've always traveled in the middle of a battle group. I've never heard of an aircraft carrier being boarded. Certainly not a US carrier...

I wonder what the Essex would look like with a huge skull and crossbones flag across one side...

Re: Map Idea: VMFA Carrier Battle Group
My rather late comments.... I like the idea for a map we could throw up on server 2 or the private server from time to time.
Each side gets 2 carriers. One is a UCB, one isn't. Put 3 CPs on the non-UCB carrier (add one at the bow of the ship). Maybe have 4 jets spawn at the UCB carrier. Now, problems with this: what vehicles do OpFor get? I think that modelling proper attack carriers might be necessary.
Alternatively, just two UCBs (carrier or airfield) spawning lots of jets. Half ticket count. Pure air battle.
Either way, I've got three words: Air Traffic Control. I think you'd need to get all the pilots (jet and chopper) on TeamSpeak and have a designated controller. Alternatively have an air squad for each vessel with an ATC guy, which means no more than 5 air seats. Two jets reparing/reloading and the occasional helo are bad enough. Imagine 6+ jets and helos reloading and repairing. It would be interesting trying to coordinate a huge air battle.

Meanwhile...
I hear you say you were on a carrier doing shakedown.
I was stationed on carriers for 6.5 years.
When the carrier was travelling at "highway" speeds, it was nice and smooth. It shakes when it goes into reverse. What you felt was probably the test of the "full-reverse".
You have no idea how powerful and capable these ships are. They're powered by a nuclear reactor for lots of reasons, one of them being that their immense capabilities require that kind of output.
They are fully capable of matching the equivalent of 70 mph, and THEN going into full reverse.
About the Pegasus - according to this page, it can go in excess of 40 knots.

HAHAHAHAHA LOL!! Yeah, right! There it is again - that unclassified, publicly-releasable info. It can't even get up on it's foils at such a slow speed. This thing TEARS through the water much faster than 40 knots.
However ... it's NOT run on nuclear power. There's a REASON for a nuclear reactor on a boat. I promise."You live and learn. Or you don't live long."

Actually the pegasus sounds like exactly the boat i was thinking of if you add some AA.I wonder, with all those boats running around, how much fun would it be too take out a full one with a harpoon
