putting carrier on a track
ok guys after talking with a bunch of people about cool things to do with the nifty new carrier in the editor, someone suggested that it should be put on a track and have it slowly sinking throughout the round, So I go curious and asked the folks at the editor forum about it
http://bfeditor.gotfrag.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3239
all very confusing if you ask me, can anyone here figure it out"The Taoist sage has no ambitions, therefore he can never fail. He who never fails always succeeds. And he who always succeeds is all- powerful." -- Lao Tzu

Re: putting carrier on a track
A track is like a rail track, things can move up and down it.
Normally in other games these are called paths so I will have a look around later when I get home and see what I can find out about doing these in BF2.
In games such as Raven Shield the game engine wasn't designed to cope with things like moving cars as "Static Objects" were meant to be static, causing lag and errors.

can someone who has more experience with the editor try this out, I would but I have no idea what any of them are talking about, I would really like to try this out
heck if it works maybe we can put it on server 2

Re: putting carrier on a track
One of the biggest issues with moving the carrier at all is simplifying the model. At the moment, moving ships caused so much lag during testing they canned movable ships. I don't think it is possible with the current rendition of the engine.

Re: putting carrier on a track
And yet BF:1942 had maps with dozens of ships that you could operate... This was one of the biggest disappointments with BF2. I was hoping they would improve the naval warfare aspect of the game, not eliminate it...

Yes, but remember the lag issues with Desert Combat with the carrier maps and people moving the carriers.

Re: putting carrier on a track
I never had them... I think it was video lag, and once I upgraded from my TNT2, I was good in the graphics department...

Re: putting carrier on a track
Don't worry Cing, it's just a matter of time until some bright spark models a carrier as a vehicle for a mod.

Re: putting carrier on a track
I'll take a look at the carrier code this weekend and see what I can come up with. So you want a sinking/raising carrier? With spawns for men and equipment?

Re: putting carrier on a track
That's going to be hard to pull off. You would have to have moving spawn points, or else the people would spawn above the ship and take fall damage. They are not making moving ships, because the ship itself is extremly complicated and has a high polygon count in itself. If they could make a model that was less complicated, they could put it into the game as a moving ship.

Re: putting carrier on a track
What would be hard about a moving spawn point? You can spawn on your SL while they are in motion. They pulled this off in BF1942. I would love to see it in BF2.
