Take Gulf of Oman air out?
I cant remember the last time i wasnt bombed constantly by a jet or a chopper in Oman, and i think it completely ruins the map. Without the air, i think youd see some really cool tank battles all over the map and youd actually get to play instead of stare at the sky, wishing that Kilrogg wasnt in a jet.
If enough people want something changed about the air in this map, it may happen in one of our special mods.

Improved AA did a funny thing to this map. Once you own a few key positions, you control the skies AND the armor, which is an insurmountable advantage.

Re: Take Gulf of Oman air out?
How about you reduce the payloads on the aircraft so they have to circle back and reload more often?

Re: Take Gulf of Oman air out?
i dont think so, jets are so imbalanced its not even funny. 2 of the best pilots (Dark Viper and Arf) tried as hard as possible, but the USMC planes are subpar compared to the Mig and J10. Whats even worse is since the patches I only see people flying on MEC..some people switch sides if the wanna fly and they are on USMC

Drunk, I think after the patch, F-35B has better chances of surviving, all they have to do is just to shoot the mig down and bomb, and repeat, and stay in high air. I have got shot down by Arf a few times today while I was in a Mig and I think the bomber is the problem. (I think i am not too shabby a pilot).

Re: Take Gulf of Oman air out?
They don't really. MIG and J10 have better chances due to their tighter turn radius, which makes it easier to lose the missile in this new patch. Sure the F35 can just fly high; but so can the Mig. Also the rince and repeat can be associated with all jets. Shoot down the F35's, bomb stuff, reload; repeat.

Re: Take Gulf of Oman air out?
oops sorry, I meant "BETTER CHANCE OF SURVIVING" not better chances than the Mig.
*HOWEVER!, Icky can just give MEC Boeing 747 and let USMC have the F35B. MEC will still win as long as Osama is on our side.

Re: Take Gulf of Oman air out?
Here is my main problem with Oman. You have the beach flags. All of them have barriers or buildings surrounding the flag area. This encourages you to stay inside this barrier because if you wander out on the beach you risk being taken down by armor/snipers/etc. Each flag looks like a fort. However with everyone spawning and staying inside the flag area to stay safe this just encourages the jets to nuke the entire flag area. Your almost assured several kills on every bombing pass. Same with arty. Its ridiculous and I think everyone has known this for a long time now.
So to me the way to make this map fun again is to take out everything that contradicts that beach flag safety zone. So yes...jets are definitely gone. Changing the bomber to a fighter will not help. We did that back before patch 1.2 and the results were just as bad. Need proof?...see ed's 72 kills in the mig this evening on oman. Next thing I would do is delete the arty assets. No more easy arty drops on the beach flags.
With those two changes the beach flags will now be enjoyable to defend. It will be like defending your squads own little fort and the defenders will now regain the advantage which is how it should always be.
Also I would have one optional but strongly suggested change:
1. Change every APC on the map into a buggy. The terrain of this map just screams 'dune buggy's'. Plus there was too much armor for such an open map. As for the tanks. Leave them.|TG-12th|mantis

Re: Take Gulf of Oman air out?
My 2¢
Change Su-34 to Mig.
Change F-35s to Migs.
Remove bombs from Migs.
Limit jet cannons to 75 rounds max.
Add an extra attack chopper to each side.
From what I've heard from Icky, this would all be possible.
Choppers make up for lack of bombs, which is equalized by jets only going after air targets.
*EDIT* In fact, change the Mig and Su-34 into F-35s so stingers will have an easier time shooting them down and dogfighting will still be even.Last edited by Dark Viper; 03-25-2006 at 09:19 AM.

Re: Take Gulf of Oman air out?
Hell no, F35s are much worse in 1.21 than in 1.2. In 1.2, you would die to any plane as long they got behind you. 1.21 removed that feature only for J10s and MIGs, it still applies to the F35.

Let's just take all the air out and be done with it.

Leave the personal attacks at the door. No need for that.
