Discussion: Battlefield 2 / Battlefield 2 - Map & Mod Development - Just a thought regarding UCB's - What if UCB's provided ammo resupply, repaired vehicles and healed soldiers? I think it would
What if UCB's provided ammo resupply, repaired vehicles and healed soldiers? I think it would keep the enemy from attacking it, while for a realistic reason. And if the idea isn't realistic, it could be modeled into an infirmary, service pad and ammo bunkers.
I think the UCB should provide some service, more than just being an Uncapturable. A tank should be able to fall back for repairs. A squad defending Artillery next to the UCB should be resupplied fast. What do you guys think?
Interesting idea. I'm not sure how it would be implemented. I think some new objects would have to be created to do some of these things.
I would actually like to see it taken a step further. Think of a supply line... if a flag "connected" to the UCB then it also would provide ammo, etc. And so forth down the line of flags.
I think that would be pretty cool. The only problem I see with that is the repair/resupply area would have to be tightly confined to keep it from repairing any destroyed CO assets. You'd need something like a permanent supply crate somewhere in the middle of the base. Would it be possible to give supply crate abilities to something like a building or flag post?

Well, from what I've seen from the N.a.W. mod, their solution to something like this (making a medical/resupply/repair helo) was to add a supply box that was grafted onto the helo itself.
So, I can assume that the same can be done to a building, or small structure to provide the same desired effects. Or possibly adding said supply box to an already existing structure on the maps.
It would also be my assumption that the supply box effective radius could also be increased to reduce any kind of "traffic accidents" that might occure due to the currently small radius.
It could easily be done, but would it be worth it? I highly doubt anyone would travel back to their UCB just to get their tank repaired or their health boosted.

Re: Just a thought regarding UCB's
I know if I'm in a tank and I get hit I'd like to have someplace to fall back to. Its tough to find an engineer in the middle of a firefight who wants to repair your tank knowing its going to get blown up anyway because your in the middle of a warzone.
I think having the option to fall back to your UCB or any flag under your control for repairs would be awesome. Kind of brings another feel to the game knowing you have an actual motorpool to go back to for repairs resupply and a field hospital to go back to for healing.
I definitely like the idea like asch said, in a supply-lines concept. It sounds like a potential Tactical Mod addition to me. If your control points link back the the UCB, they provide repair to you.
Sounds like one of the UT2003 game modes where you had to take control of nodes in a particular order to get some vehicles and make your way to the enemy base.
The supply lines concept is interesting...I played WWII online when it first was released. The concept of "supply lines" was always talked about....I think it eventually made it into the game. I left before it was introduced I believe.
If it was used in BF2 it would make things interesting. Like icky said, it would be ideal in TacMod.
