US Intervention 0.1 mod released

This is a mod based on the first Persian Gulf war. 7 new maps, new choppers, new tanks, new weapons, new jets.. including the A-10. Full list of new stuff is in this thread.

http://usi.jarhedz.com/

Downloading has been a pain. I actually got it on FilePlanet at a decent speed.. It'd probably be your best bet if you get logged in and there isn't a wait for the free servers. If you have utorrent installed, then the torrent should work but it seems to be broken on other clients. People say the gau-pc mirror is fast, but I didn't test it. The jarhedz mirror was overloaded and slow, Filefront gave terrible speeds.

After you download the file, you'll need to use WinRAR to extract it.

I'm surprised TG member UH60BHPilot didn't give us the heads up as I believe he is on the USI mod team.

MNM is always possible if enough SM's are interested. I'll probably try the mod out tonight.

Re: US Intervention 0.1 mod released

Bubba and I played a couple of absolutely HUGE maps.. No out of bounds areas and flags in all corners. With the A-10 roaming the sky (when the pilots weren't busying TKing each other), driving in a vehicle was a big pain and walking took forever. Those huge maps were quite vehicle-centric, and even in a vehicle it took a while to get to a base. Not my favorite way to play, really.

The server we played on was kinda junky.. VOIP didn't work and it wouldn't allow more than two squads. The server admins knew about the squad bug but wouldn't restart the server. It really sucked one round when our SL insisted on camping the airfield. Average pubby play with bunny hoppers everywhere and people refusing to wait for you to hop in their vehicle.

I played a couple infantry maps and wasn't overlly impressed, really. Felt pretty much like normal BF2 but with a couple different weapons.

The sounds in the mod are too loud, IMO. The A-10 does sound mean, though.

The Hummer has a radio in it that plays all the time, even without anyone in it. That's annoying.

But, there are cool resupply jeeps that act like a supply crate, giving you ammo and health when you stand by them. Bubba and I were going through AT rockets like candy, so it was nice when one of those jeeps would spawn and we could stock up before the next person came along and drove off by themselves.

Engineer kit has a handheld SAM.. It's better than the one in NAW in that it doesn't kill anyone within a 20ft radius when you launch it, but it doesn't kill aircraft any better than in normal BF2.

I played with the jets in singleplayer. The A-10 and Iraqi equivalent have dumb fire rockets and bombs and the big nose cannon. No AA capabilities. The fighters, F-16 and Mig-29, have the regular BF2 gun and AA missles, no bombs. So, the two jets would need to work together to be effective.

Would be an interesting mod to play in a TG environment. Same arcade elements as normal BF2, but without the silly stuff that NAW added. All the maps I played were pretty decent quality, but it looks like you have to be able to play them at medium settings or better.

A decent start to the mod.

I'm afraid that's a no-go for me and my 1986 PC.

Radio as in walkie-talkie, not radio as in Bob & Tom!

I do miss the radios from the vehicles in BFV though.

Re: US Intervention 0.1 mod released

Tacmod didn't have an installer for its first few releases. Everyone has to start somewhere

Re: US Intervention 0.1 mod released

I've loaded all the maps in local server mode and they look awesome. Basrah streets is one of the best city maps I've seen. It could make for some awesome street fighting. This looks like an overall great mod.
