Map: Inishail Forest v1.0 Released!
Finally, after months of working on it (mostly due to a crappy old computer that took forever to do anything, until I upgraded to my new PC) my TG Map Contest map is finished. As you will see if you tried the last version I put out for testing, it's much much more advanced
.
I have put a lot of time and effort making the map as detailed as I possibly could without making it lag. I'm especially proud of the terrain texturing although it's not as detailed as I would like, otherwise I would have spent another month on it but the deadline is now
.
It's a rural China-based map with no commander assets and varied terrain. Farmlands, forests and "house to house" fighting through a seemingly peaceful but war-torn area. Heavy jeeps are the only vehicles.
Download:
Superceded by v1.1, see this thread
Install: Simply unzip Inishail_Forest.zip into your EA Games/Battlefield2/mods/bf2/Levels folder. (So that you have the Inishail_Forest folder in /Levels)
NOTE: This map is multi-player only. It will not work with single-player.
Tons of pics:

the map looks amazing. Hopefully things will play out properly with when this map is played with a lot of people (no imbalance), but im sure its gonna be great.
Keep up the great work!
edit..It should be very unique as its a infantry map without the urban feel of a Karkand or Sharqi

Re: Map: Inishail Forest v1.0 Released!
Thanks
. That's the only downside, I haven't had time to actually playtest it but since it's only my second map ever for any game I went safe and didn't try to do anything complex gameplay-wise so there shouldn't be too much imbalance.
Seems to be a limit on the number of pics I can put in one post so here's the rest:

holy hell kilrogg! that's probably the best looking map i've ever seen!! It'll be a little rough on low end systems but it's friggin gorgeous....
and you did a fantastic job w/ the layout - the CP's look like they'll be a blast... especially suburbs - reminds me of a paintball 'arena'
(a good thing)

Re: Map: Inishail Forest v1.0 Released!
Thanks for the comments, definately makes all the hours I spent on it seem worth it. I forgot to post install instructions for people who aren't sure how to "install" it, updated the original post. Sorry too many things to think about when finishing the map, I submitted it at 11:53pm tonight (deadline) so it was kinda close
.
As far as low end systems, I've made sure to constantly test every version I made on my second PC (my now old, Radeon 9800 pro PC I played with until I got my new one a month or so ago) and it ran fine at higher than normal settings (normal being the settings I played normal BF2 maps on w/ that computer). I'm actually kind of surprised it runs this well since there's like 3100 objects (counting trees which actually don't really count) and higher-than-normal range grass. I set it so it doesn't render anything past the fog (400 range) which I think is a setting most people who make custom maps forget. They set the fog but forget the "maxviewdistance" setting so it ends up rendering a lot of stuff they can't even see.
