SA-7 Stinger on Crimea
Getting this thing involved in the defense is critical for Ukraine. Unfortunately I, and apparently most people, didn't know where to find it. Well here it is - on the porch of a big house at upper village:

After you grab it, you can quickly climb across the ravine to South Village - where you can engage the Cobra all over the map. Be careful when using though - the Cobra gunner is going to be looking for you, so it's best to annoy them with the lock-on tone until it's not facing you. Once it's looking/shooting somewhere else, fire away!

Re: SA-7 Stinger on Crimea
thanks! Couple nights ago I got so many questions as to where it was. I was about ready to just add in a giant neon floating arrow over it in game and say something like "own cobra here"
BTW, from our in game discussions last night along with some of our testers, and my own concerns about the map... I have made some adjustments that I believe will make everyone happy.

Why not just have 2?

Re: SA-7 Stinger on Crimea
2 would mean the cobra wouldn't have a chance. 1 means that the cobra can be forced to leave but still be effective.

Re: SA-7 Stinger on Crimea
Really? 2 just means if both kits are working together an lock on you at the same time then you will instantly die if you don't immediately flare and leave. More commonly the kits will be in different squads and in different locations. I'm pretty sure both kits won't be able to cover beach or beach village until the landing party arrives.
Right now the cobra just doesn't have anything to fear, short of a tank shot to the head. Other than that a cobra team on this map really shouldn't die. IMO that's a problem."Divide and rule, a sound motto. Unite and lead, a better one." -Goethe

Re: SA-7 Stinger on Crimea
I'm not pulling your leg man. The map is designed to allow the cobra to operate at lower elevations so that the US has a chance to make a successful landing. At higher elevations it gets markedly tougher as you run into AA batteries. 2 kits means that the chopper doesn't operate successfully anywhere and the US probably doesn't land.

Re: SA-7 Stinger on Crimea
I'm on the fence about suggesting 2. While certain cobra teams 2 would be an effective deterrent, most would be overwhelmed if there's the slightest coordination. My gripe with the AA is that in general a novice cobra team can have free reign because the gun emplacements are too far back to provide any forward support, which can easily reduce the UKR team to a back flag standoff. I think in most cases 2 would be too powerful. I think better AA gun placement or a shilka solution require more skill to repel a decent cobra team.

Re: SA-7 Stinger on Crimea
Guys, there's a LOT of stuff on the map (tanks, APCs, Dingos) that can damage the cobra... any two firing on it at the same time will seriously make it run and hide. The trick is not to engage it from out in the open. Always stay near a building when in armor so you can just move 20m when the helo's making it's attack run.
2 stingers would be WAY to much - the US would never reach the beach.

Re: SA-7 Stinger on Crimea
As for AA just to clear up the discussion, the new version has the one at the Ukraine main village moved forward and overlooks the map. So if you sit there and the Cobra gets to much elevation, then he can be toast. The other AA I am toying with is adding one to the spot above the church where one is in the 32 player version. Those changes would all for better opportunity to kill the Cobra yet still give the USMC a chance to get on the beach.
The thing to remember in a map like this is that the balance is on the edge of a knife. Depending on the team, it can go either way in a big way.

The Stinger will not spawn until Beach is captured by the USMC.

Re: SA-7 Stinger on Crimea
Dingos hurt cobras? Why don't they hurt the other helos on other maps?

Re: SA-7 Stinger on Crimea
Dingos and Humvees rip up choppers if you shoot at the rotors or cockpit. The .50 cal MG does tremendous dmg to them.
I still say that all fixed AA guns and MANPADS go bye bye and a shilka is thrown in instead.-F-

Re: SA-7 Stinger on Crimea
I don't know that I like that idea. With only one target, the Cobra, that leaves the Shilka hunting infantry, which really gets my goat when it happens. It's just silly. I'm in favor of opening up the map more for static AAA to have a broader line of sight on the cobra in combination with the MANPAD kit. All it'd take is for the MANPAD to spook the pilot into making mistakes, like flying too high, and the AAA will eat the cobra for breakfast. And at low altitudes where the flares burn out faster (absorbed into the terrain) and no room to maneuver, it's either retreat or take G2A up the tail pipe if the gunner can't find the source of the lock on.
