Somebody please tell me...
how some POE2 players never, EVER fail to see you first regardless of near/far cover or the existence of a commander? They *always* know where you are. Always. Without fail.
I have kept my mouth sewn tightly shut regarding this topic for quite some time. However, way too many times now I have been, and witnessed others be, the victim(s) of seemingly impossible sightings & killings. It is almost like some players have dual screens, one with the normal FPS view and one with a big map highlighting friendlies & enemies alike. I hate that mental image because it is rank. Unfortunately it has come to mind too many times now and I have to speak up aboot it (as the Canucks would say).
I'm not alone here. On many occasions I have played on squads of passing veteran visitors and heard the same complaints.
I've been around the FPS world way too long to have this dismissed as n00b incompetence. Yeah, I'm sure you all know me as a mediocre player of POE2, but seriously. What gives?
Until I started playing this particular game I had no problem what-so-ever gaining enough skills to dominate, or at least hang with, the best on any FPS battle field. Be it ground or air. Laugh, yes… but it was so. In all my years of playing pubs/tournies of BF & BF2 (and many, many others) and their mods I only rarely came across players that beat me to the dirt every single encounter. Yet in POE2 I am perpetual worm-food.
This post is birthed of frustration. If it turns out that I simply suck-azz compared to the current generation of players then so be it. I just want to know what gives.
I need some enlightenment so I can get past this frustration. If somebody is willing to show me how they have such un-erring detection of hidden enemies then I’ll watch, learn humbly, and give thanks. I’m just not ready yet to believe that people can have it to such a degree w/o some nefarious help. For a long time now I have reluctantly yielded to the premise that I just don’t know how to do it any longer, but each time I play FPS games with friends on LANs I can still dominate with little effort. So, something is very wrong.
Again… this post has been a long time coming and is not w/o reservation because it is such a... a... whine.

Re: Somebody please tell me...
Sometimes its intuition. Like I know where I expect an enemy to come from and watch for that area. I also swing around a lot in game because I am a little paranoid.
Some people use the spotted key a lot when scouting and can find you hidden behind things.
Also depending on the map, you might not be as well hid as you think. If you are beyond the draw distance of the grass then you are wide open. Or perhaps you had your feet sticking through a static and they spotted you.
Personally I go for a lot of knife kills... and stalk people without them knowing for a while. So you might be running along and think you are all alone... but I am there watching and waiting...

Re: Somebody please tell me...
Also if you have a top sound card and a surround sound setup speakers or headphones support it always helps me because you can 90% of the time know where the shots are being fired from iv lost count how many times its saved my ass.

Keep your head on a swivel, always watch the minimap, and have a good set of 5.1 headphones with positional sound are reasons why some people do well in this regard.

Start watching battle recorder files of the games that you play. It is amazing what you will see when you are not in the adrenaline rush of the game. Go to the view of the player that you thought could not see you and you may see something different. You will be suprised how many close encounters you have with players that you never knew were there. Rotate the view to see what is happening on your sides and behind you. You will probably be able to see Greasy stalking you with a knife and the rest of us eating special brownies.
As for cheating, it does happen, but fortunately the Admins act swiftly with investigations and bans. I think most of it comes down to situational awareness for most of us.

Re: Somebody please tell me...
There are more reasons people die then live on this game. Yep the draw distance is a big thing, many players turn the options way down so the grass disappears pretty quickly. Shadows are another thing, never ever use a shadow to hide in. What you see is not what others see.
It also really matters on what you are hiding behind. If its grass, forget about it, the only thing its doing is preventing you from seeing someone else. If your cover wont stop a bullet its not worth using as cover.
Many folks have been playing these maps for a long time. Most people take the same routes to get to a flag. Knowing this, someone can wait for you to come around the corner.
The minimap is a big give away. Dont forget its not just what is on a minimap but what is also not shown. Case in point you look at the minimap to a locattion near you and see nothing, 2 seconds later you see an empty jeep. Guess what , you now have a few visitors. Dont forget that I can remember where someoen shot me from, when I respawn gues where I am going back to.
There are some really good players, there are also people that have been banned. If you really feel that there is someone that needs to be investigated then send a PM to an admin with the name of the person, date and time with the name of the map. We can then take a look at the Battle Recorder file to either confirm or dismiss the issue. FBMantis is really good at watching the BR files, Khareus and I are more than happy to take a look at it too.
At the end of the day its just a game, play have fun and enjoy

Re: Somebody please tell me...
I think something else that people are missing is just the simple philosophy of TG and that is team work. When you are on the ground you have other people looking out for their team and squad. People are spotting enemies so their team can see where an approaching squad maybe coming from. People play their roles the way they were meant to be played. That is a big difference to the single minded pubs and tournaments that you have played in the past. I personally think that is probably the biggest reason of why you have the feeling you are constantly being seen

Here's a good list of threads to check-out, the 'how to do well on fallen' thread in particular.
...and like Drizzid said, it really is about teamwork. The reason you may be getting shot is because you're blinking like a Christmas tree on OpFor's mini-map. In the best squads there's a very good chance that the guy that killed you wasn't be the guy that first spotted you. (Velociraptor's hunt in packs

It's because of the low graphics vs high graphics settings in BF.

Because some people that go 57-1 dont often leave their respective domes of death.
Not gonna mention names, but its shady.

Re: Somebody please tell me...
I notice the tendencies of long time players and the method by which they capture a flag, and because I'm still relatively new, I'm always hiding someplace that no one expected me to be. sure, I get shot (alot) but I thinks its great when someone walks right on by, cause my position doesn't make any sense. and often my position makes no sense.

Re: Somebody please tell me...
Silly...I got killed...respawned in my ucb to get the sniper kit and as I'm leaving my ucb I see your squad(dirtboys) flanking near the ucb to hit a backflag....what do you think is going to happen there. Of course I'm going to shoot you from the outer edge of my ucb...I have every right to and thats when I saw you guys. Otherwise I was always in the thick of things attacking or defending near flags....you can't see crap from the ucbs...go watch the BR file.
