Disappointed
I had the privalage tonight to command a team on Orel, I believe Mantis was SL of the third squad and I didn't issue orders to him because he was making things happen.
As for the others, following orders seems to not happen.
Tactically, I could see what was going on and whom was doing what, and we lost because they would not follow commands.....
I ordered one squad to attack, and they sat in the woods like squirrels doing nothing, heck they weren't even snipers...
Why bother commanding???

Re: Disappointed
Olliet... Thanks for taking the reins and leading the team that round.
As for Squad Leaders not following orders, that is contrary to some of our most basic rules here. Mention problems in-game, and admins will do their best to fix them. And we can fix 'em, for sure... Check out some of the links in my sig for some guidance, I suppose.
I was on the other team, but I was in game and saw no mention of guys not following the rules. Mantis, who was on your team, is an admin as well, and I'm sure he would have fixed it...
It's good to see guys stepping up and commanding. Check out the way we try to play here, and let us know if something's not right when you're playing the game, on any of TG's servers. We're all better for it.OPS, the bacon is on you.

Re: Disappointed
I did not SL Orel tonight nor do I remember a commander but the who or the what doesn't really matter. Just note what khaerus said about our rules and how you can get ahold of an admin to get these players in line. We can not enforce our ruleset if we do not know there is a problem that needs fixing. Help us help you and we can improve the server quality together.

Re: Disappointed
It was a bit crazy between 7:30 and 9:00pm EST last night. when the squads were 8 on 8 or 10 on 10. When that magical 9:00pm EST hit the TG crew represented and man, things got good, except for my inability to drive tanks, and / or know when and where they spawn.
That map (forgive me not knowing names of the maps) with the Farm and the Train, the contest went to the wire. That was just AWESOME!
Khaerus, you mentioned Squad Leader training, in game? is that a 100 level course, do I need a profs signature to sign up.
) What book is needed, man, cause I'm ready to learn. I've tried a couple times in the past, but find my knowledge, or lack there of, of the Maps hinders my ability to properly SL a squad.
in the mean time, I'm trying to settle into a KIT, and become more proficient in it. (usually Med or Support. I just can't operate AT.)
man, Mantis, when I was only one of your 66 kills, I called that a win for me.
thanks guys, I really love TG even for the 6-10 TG people that populate on the regular basis.Park Bench

Re: Disappointed
Khaerus, eFlight and other POE2 Admins are also on Teamspeak often, so that is the EASIEST way of reporting an admin, and you aren't announcing it to everyone in-game where it can create drama and it may also get overlooked.
Welcome to the TG forums too Olliet!

Re: Disappointed
That should be in my sig

Bench, if you want to learn how to SL, join a squad with a good leader and learn from them.. There are a bunch of great leaders here at TG. I learned from some of the best, I just stole everyone elses moves. lol
I will give you a couple hints..
The SL should never be on the flag.
Have a diverse squad, medics, support, AT.. Not all one class.
Pick a flag and defend it. If you loose it, go get it back.

Re: Disappointed
I mentioned "LearnTG" squads... Often we'd set them up in-game to try to help new players along with how we play. You'll learn that from joining most any of the guys who regularly squad-lead, but the "Learn" squads seemed to be a little more to the point. Joining up with different players gives you a good chance to see different styles of play and adopt them as your own, as well. A lot of what I do, I got from LuckyShot, for instance. I'm always happy to have new guys in my squads as well. I think it's a lot of fun to see new players get excited about running in a good squad, on a good team, and in a close match.
I've never gotten involved with the TG University, but you might check it out:

And ParkBench, you're right: that round of "Rolling Thunder" that we came back to win on was great fun... and I was laughing hard when you were kneeling in front of that tank, explaining how you couldn't get in it because you didn't know where it spawned...
OPS, the bacon is on you.

Re: Disappointed
whats also good about this. I was looking towards the tank, but there was a wall or something, maybe it was those pipes... I was lying down. damn.. I could've been prone next to it look at freakin' tread and I'd be like, tank? what tank? (boba fett?, boba fett? where boba fett?)
Maybe I play like an intelligent deer in the Maine woods this time of year. Someone is always shooting at me.
AMosely and I did a couple "training squads" when I first started, now I've just moved into trying to find a TG Squad Leader, and "taking notes". As I said before I just don't know the Maps that well... I'm like a goldfish, no memory... oh a TANK!

Re: Disappointed
I find knowing the maps is less important than having a game plan.
Is my squad going to hop from flag to flag to try to take each one, or are we going to grab a flag and defend it?
If there are 3 flags you only have to control 2 to win. For the most part a new SL is best off grabbing one of those and defending it till the rest of the game. If things are really slow pick two guys and send them to help attack or defend the other flag as needed, just remember to call them back when you need them.
Also keeping an eye on where the squad members are is important if you are defending as folks like to wander off to the action.
When attacking you are more valueable as a spawn point close to the flag you are attacking than whatever shooting skills you may have.
Give it a try, let folks know you are new at it and ask for help, its a mature group that will go out of its way to help anyone willing to take the SL job.
