Re: State of the Teamplay Address

One point that I think needs to be made is this: if you see new faces in your squad, plug the forums a bit, get them to show up here, etc. All the talk in the world amongst the players here won't do us all that much good 'cause we're all preaching to the choir here.

One other thing I've been trying to do lately is join squads that are being led by the new guys... I think it's important to join their squads and watch/help them learn the ropes...

I guess my main thing now is trying to use some positive vibes to entice these new guys to stick around so we have a full server beyond the break-in run of this new release... There's only so many chances we get to rebuild a strong base...

(good golly, I sound like the "nanny-goat" squad-leader. Ikonic was right: join gramma Khaerus' squad, he makes good cookies!)

And I'm still happy with the teamwork I'm seeing in the server nightly. Aside from the new guys, I'm getting to fight with old faces that somehow I've never really run with before. (Gahlas and I seem to be in the same squad all the time now, and man, can he play, for instance... Boudreux is another guy that I seem to have just met, but I hope he joins my squad again...)

I think this goes well to the spirit in which I started the thread, its just that simple, we all know what not to do as a SL, I hope as long as we don't do those things we can all SL. Try it you might surprise yourself or be surprised by your SM's. I was smiling all night even through a particularly squeaky SM who was pointing out simple game play mechanics (to us noobs) that had IllicitFilms in stitches I calmly asked Illicit to leave him be and that was the end of that. I hope everyone understand my Thread title well, we all know the issues with team play this thread is about taking actions to fix it.

I hope you all take as much from this as I have and implement these simple fixes to your SL'ing and Squad joining habits. I look forward to reading more and seeing some new faces contribute, I have already seen alot of old faces comment so I know I have held some attention to this issue, thank you.

Long May the FFTHFF(5th) live in our memories and our teamplay.

I personally think you guys are doing an outstanding job of promoting teamwork, and i will try my best to do the same. Having said that, i am still a rookie at this game. I like to join squads with people that i know are willing to teach us rookies the finer points or even the larger points of the game. I have only been playing this game for 4 months now and i think or at least i hope i am being viewed as one that is willing to do whatever will benefit the squad.
Kil, do you think the teamwork aspect of this server is better now or before your retirement??

Same here, it seems like whenever I form a squad, it fills up pretty quick with regulars and new faces -- and the scary thing is: they come back for seconds the next time I happen to make a squad

Not only does Khaerus make good cookies, he makes pretty warm quilts and sweaters too! Though, I only wear the sweater when no one is around . I also heard that Khaerus break dances in between bingo sessions. Careful you don't break a hip

Re: State of the Teamplay Address

@ HiTestFest, Truthfully I won't make that distinction because having now made my commitment to TG, as a member of the Irregulars I can't dwell on what was and what is, I am only dwelling on the "What can I do?" And the answer to that is started in this thread and in other that I will start and in focusing on team play and the TG mantra as much as possible. I didn't actually start many squads last night I just squadded up with names I didn't know, I reveled in the fact that I was asked to SL, but i told the ppl SL'ing to keep doing their thing and if I could give any insight I would, so I did. I will be mostly looking for unknown names on Mon, Wed, & Fri from now on Tues & Thur I will try to dedicate to either old buddies or finding Irreg duties to take up.
I am also trying to get more Irregs back into POE, you hear me BetterDeadThanRed!! And mostly trying to find as many activities as I can to promote the team play and maturity aspect of TG in and out of the game.

    In short, I am focused!

Long May the FFTHFF(5th) live in our memories and our teamplay.

I have to disagree with you here. A sniper can be a VERY useful tool to a squad if they do their job...recon...spot the enemies with that double scope. Maybe get out a head of your squad a bit, not Project far, but a good distance and let the squad know what is coming. You can also ruin morale for the other team by taking a few shots to keep them scared. The problem is usually when one person snipes, someone else has to do it so it ruins it, but I have been in squads where a sniper is crucial since most people do not command at all.

And a word for whoever it was talking about being a medic, a red blob goes on screen which shows you where the firing is coming from. The reason people get mad when you heal out in the open is that sick bastards like to shoot then wait for revive or you can do like I did to a certain unknown player and lay a c4 pack under the dead soldier and measure height and distance for body parts. Throw some smoke then move in for the revive...it is more effective.

Also, if you are squad leading, have some fun with it. Try a new style of defense. Sometimes hearing the same orders over and over makes me want to grab the wheel and drive into a bridge embankment. Try something sporty like the Cone of Death or the Box and 1...

Why is a sniper kit necessary to do what you are describing? Other kits can spot enemies. All the kits guns have single shot mode for distance shots. Playing sniper isnt necessary at all

I've had games in POE that were excellent and exhausted all tactical elements, then i have had games in which there were small locked squads that say "SNIPERS" or in my squads or squads i'm in, a guy sniping and ignoring what direction is given in the squad.

If your going to snipe do so in tact and move down to cap a flag to create some bleed. Otherwise, it qualifies as Lone Wolfing if you are doing nothing other then camping a flag with the rifle, now if you are part of a squad working defense i can understand that but you cannot disagree that there are far too many people on the server at times who snipe alone, and that is the main issue I have with them.

I have no problems getting nailed by a chopper, tank, guy inside the flag area working on capping the flag, but to sit on defense and get taken out an entire game long by one sniper who always go's back to the same spot and never moves in to the flag.. well thats not very tactical IMO.

I do understand your point, but there are clearly two very different ways the kit can be played. And mostly, its used for lone wolfing tactics. But there are those who play the kit well like you mention.

It's tactical if he's tying you up all game by doing that, and then causing the enemy to tie up resources to go after him... resources that could better be used for attacking/defending flags. Harassment does have a place in the book of tactics, but for it to be effective, it has to be more than a 1:1 ratio. If he is single-handedly tying up more than one person on the other team, I'd say that's 2 or more less people the enemy can use to attack/defend a flag.

Besides, if he's going back to the same spot... spot him for someone... I'm sure a chopper would love to swing by and give him some love.

That said, snipers suck. But for me, it's more due to the harassment factor than anything else. And if he irritates me enough to grab a sniper rifle of my own to go hunting him down, then he's actually done his job right.

The scope on the rifle isn't the kind that freshens breath, it allows you to see things other users cannot. It is not about shooting at a distance, it is about spotting things much further away. Also, the camo a sniper has on allows him/her to move further into enemy territory without being spotted.

This is a video game, it is not necessary at all, either, but we play it anyway, don't we?

Well I noticed one thing tonight. I just sat back and watched as the beginning of rounds would start and half the team would be unsquaded. So we have in the range of 50% of the players sitting on their butts waiting for someone to start a squad. In my book, this isn't a good sign of a healthy environment. Seems that most of the players just want someone else to do all the work; so much for teamwork.

It's been like that for quite some time now Bane; there are some maps that I would rather be a squad member, but rarely, that isn't the case as I almost have to fire one up -- which I don't mind at all, either. I realize others feel the same way as I do, but SL'ing isn't as hard as people make it out to be, it is simply the fact that you have stepped up to the plate to take on a new aspect of playing the game and giving your teammates a break from SLing from time to time.

Re: State of the Teamplay Address

I think that started to happen after team switching was introduced, I try to hold my squad selection til I see who's out there, not very easy when everyone waits forever, yes!

Maybe we should go back to persistent squads, see how that turns out. Thats up to admins and such but I suggest we try it over the weekend or the course of next week.

BTW, the reason I hold my selection is,once I start a squad it fills with TG'ers quite fast. When I wait I can select some new names to squad up with.

The draw distance is not increased when you zoom any weapon, sniper rifles included. Snipers cannot see any more than any other kit. for shame
