Re: Increased Lag?
I've determined that it's related to a combination of my ISP and this accursed winter weather. My connection is not as clean as first thought it was.

Re: Increased Lag?
I had one of the worst nights ever last night playing POE2. The primary reason was that whenever I'd go prone, I would immediately stand back up, then go prone, stand up, prone.... repeat..... until FINALLY I'd be prone, only to be shot in the head by an enemy player. This happened over and over and over last night. This CANNOT be anything on my end, and must be a server side issue. Most of the evening the server was fully populated. I think our server is currently over-taxed, and has nothing to do with my ping.

Re: Increased Lag?
I had that happen to me in similar fashion playing TF2 this morning, which is what made me run some more checks on my connection. For my part, it's a bad connection in the link between my ISP and the rest of the world it seems, making it an internet backbone issue. Prolly ice damage on the line someplace... or some numpty took out a telco pole some place.

Re: Increased Lag?
I've gotten random lag but never anything constant on a particular map. However, I've have heard other players complaining about lag on a map when I wasn't experiencing any at all. The only weird situation I've encountered is running then slowing down like I'm going through molasses even when there is nothing in front of me. This has happened more than once on different maps.

Re: Increased Lag?
If you are getting disconnect issues and have a duel core, Lucky and I have the same issue and have had it for a long time. There is a couple fixes you can do that we are testing right now. This is a BF2 issue and this PoE inherits it. The only confirmed fix we have so far is to turn off your second processor once you launcher the game for BF2. I am in the process of testing a fix from AMD which addresses this issue via software.

Re: Increased Lag?
Usually we do not see many pings over 100 unless there are spikes. I have noticed many more players with stable pings over 100. Many new faces which is good. Are we attracting more international players with this release to TG? Does the server need to work harder to equalize a larger spread in the pings? I have no clue, just wondering.

Re: Increased Lag?
^ Well I hope so. I pimp PoE and TG over at the EA_UK forums every chance I get. Having the server populated with Euro buddies would go a long way toward longer peek play periods throughout the day, especially weekends I figure.

Re: Increased Lag?
While I may suffer from fewer disconnects, I am experiencing lag on the server. Odessa the other night was bad around the statue and I have had it on other maps as well.

Re: Increased Lag?
I've had some issues. Mostly after we switched to vonage here at the house. Seems Comcast doesn't like it much, and forget trying to play a game while bittorrent is running on their service. My ping would spike from 35 to 400. My brother was using bittorrent.
Arrgh.
It may be a combination of a lot of things, but the lag issues I have had lately are across all types of games, meaning it's my pc or more likely, comcast.

Re: Increased Lag?
I have seen alot of the jumpiness in the new maps as well. Last night sitting in an AA gun most the round, once every three or four minutes a person would appear out of nowhere, like a spawn in, and then immediately dissappear. Weirdness?
But mostly just laggy behavior, like the going prone issue previously mentioned, it taking two or three clicks to get that nade to leave your hand. And also several maps seem to have issues where every time you throw a nade or ammo bag you get two animations, one only slightly behind the other. Despite how it sounds it hasn't been all that bad yet, pretty intermitent.
Out of curiosity, do we have a ping limit on the server? I know with all the UK members, and other international players it is hard to set a cap that wouldn't exclude alot of folks.
EDIT: Figured I should add...I really like most of the new maps....great stuff!

Re: Increased Lag?
I don't think this is a POE issue. I've seen the random lag affect vanilla and SF servers as well. Plus I have had the occasional lags on the TG server prior to the last few poe versions.
Has anyone done a tracert or pathping when they get the lag?

Re: Increased Lag?
With this release on some maps and full server I have been experiencing lag like I have never before with POE2 or BF2. I haven't play a lot, but twice I just had to drop because it was a slide show. I have played BF2 during this same time frame and had no issues, so for me it seems to be a POE2 issue.

Re: Increased Lag?
There's three things going on here.. be sure to clarify which you're getting.
1) Due to a high number of static objects on some maps (Port Yalta and Odessa in particular), you should expect lower average Frames Per Second. Buildings and 3D objects (basically everything not dirt) takes more polygons, and thus processing power to render.
2) You might also get some intermittent stuttering as things swap in and out of RAM. If you've got under 2GB of CPU ram, expect to get this... look at task manager some time and you'll see BF2 takes over 1GB of RAM on some maps. (Note: because of the long view distances, you're also more likely to get from your video card's RAM - especially if you're using HIGH setting on textures.)
3) If you're getting rubber-banding where things are warping about (but your FPS remain high), then you're dealing with a network issue.
