Re: Squad Leaders, and ...
That could be an issue when it's the start of the round rush to uncapped flags and there aren't any dead bodies to pick them up yet.

Re: Squad Leaders, and ...
Just follow me... I guarantee you that you can have my kit within 30 seconds of a match starting.
Seriously, though... on the TG server (although it should be like this for every game of BF2 no matter where you play), the moment you join up with a squad, that is your commitment to be a part of that squad and follow the squad leader's orders, no matter how stupid those orders might seem to you. If you don't agree with the orders, you might want to give helpful suggestions if there is time and you're not under fire (or here, post constructive feedback via a PM if possible), but don't call out the squad leader in front of the squad. If you've got a better idea how to do it, why aren't you leading a squad? Plus, squad leaders need to learn from their mistakes in order to become better squad leaders. If you don't think your SL did very well, then you be a SL next round and invite him into your squad so you can demonstrate how you feel the squad should be led. Otherwise, just follow the orders and be a good squad member.
The other thing I don't see enough of is setting expectations. That 2 minutes before the round starts... by the time everyone forms up squads, you've got like 20 seconds left. I know there are just some people who haven't loaded up the map yet, but by all means... start setting up squads if you're going to lead, and if you don't intend to lead, join up a squad. Use that two minutes as a squad leader to set clear and concise expectations with your squad. TG regulars know what those expectations are already.... all the new people on the server don't. I know it gets repetitive, but sometimes just saying "Stick with the squad, always spawn on me, here's what kits I need, on this server we follow the squad leader's orders no matter what, etc..." will help squad members understand what is expected of them and the leadership style to expect from you so you don't come off as rude or demanding later.

Re: Squad Leaders, and ...
My strategy for SLing includes the following:
1) If the squad is working well, I'll try more tactics and leave some of the self organizing to the SMs. For example. "We will defend here. Mine N and S roads. 2 people look north and 2 look south. Medic follow me and spot towards enemy."
2) If I have a squad with the wrong kits. Example: "OK. Please defend/attack here. When you die, respawn AT and keep tone on the tank and APC to free us up." Etcetera...
3) If the squad isn't going well or people want to fly/snipe/run around, I do the following: "OK. If you want to play that class, then move to this position and spot/strafe/whatever to help the squad. Support squad 2 at this flag when you are lining up for another attack, respawn, etc." I essentially try to use what I have to help out the whole team. I don't necessarily try to force fit when people are learning or being part of a squad.
4) If things are going REALLY horribly and no-one is talking and no one is listening, I'll join another squad. There is only so much chaos one SL can handle. Not optimal, I know, but, also rather frustrating when no organization happens. This does not happen often, but, sometimes at odd hours.
