    Squad Leaders, and ...

What to do when issued an order. It really is simple. Tonight on "spies" Kilevvri1 was issuing order left and right and like half the squad did what was told. We all suffered and lost the map. If I would have changed one thing, it would be to show vocal support for our SLDR. Sorry Kil, I should have spoken up. Keep the visitors and new guys well aware of how squads work by backing up you SQLDR with a "cmon guys, listen to the SQLDR" or "listen up guys, I really need your help". The only way visitors and new folks will learn is if we each speak up and show support and guidance, as we can all learn from each other.

Lol. Kil and I have faced each other a few times on this map when both of us had "inexperienced" squads... kil saw me lose a 70 ticket lead one time when my ALL guys went haywire at once (and he was sweet enough to taunt me about it too.) I remember being on TS, crying to someone about all the new ways we were finding to self-destruct. If it hadn't been happening to me, I would have laughed too.

If I know my guys are trying, though, I can't get too upset... Somehow, I suppose, I just wasn't able to keep them focused in that one round. Apparently, you sometimes get the perfect storm of absurdity which will drive a perfectly good SL to eating corn chops and butter. Yum.

Now, if the Squad Members were just plain disobeying orders, that's a different story...

    Anyway, yeah: support your SL.

    Re: Squad Leaders, and ...

I'm all for obeying and supporting your SL, but more than once I've been in a squad (their names will not be revealed, but they had TG tags on) where the SL was, shall we say, somewhat less than reasonable or, and quite frankly, abusive.

If several people leave your squad, you might want to re-evaluate the way you are treating people.

If someone says "get on the flag" and then gives you crap b/c you didn't, well, it doesn't help that when they told you that you were already dead.

On another occasion, we all spawned in at the beginning, and kits were not mentioned til after spawn, and I was told "I don't need a sniper, you need another kit," which is all fine and good, but til I die, I'm a sniper, I can't change it, and suicide isn't going to help the team. You don't have to continue to be a butthead about it.

    Sorry, ending the rant.

One thing that might be worth mentioning that can help Squadleaders out, if you join a squad ask what kits are needed over VOIP.

Also don't change kits without making sure that fits the SLs plans.

And most importantly there is very rarely a need for everyone to spawn at the round start. Wait and find out where you are headed, how you are getting there and what kits are needed. Nothing kills a quick rollout more than sitting there waiting to pick up SMs that are running around a UCB trying to get to the SLs already full jeep.

In other words, Support Your Local Squadleader.

First if you feel that you are being picked out, maybe its for a reason, just saying. Second, there are 5 other SM's with the squad generally, in the heat of battle trying to tell one from the other is not the easiest, so maybe it was about other people, not you, unless you were singled out by name. Third I think it's time everyone put this I have to die to change my kit argument to rest. Sawviper said it best, ask your SL on entry for kit requirements, thats the best way and don't stop asking til you get an answer.

No one expects everyone to get everything right the first time, that being said if you are asked, or actually an SL tells you to do X, then the option is to do X and let the chips fall where they may.

Being warm and cuddly doesn't help most of the time as some people have general way of not listening and not caring. And it's not their fault it's the system man!

    Re: Squad Leaders, and ...

Having a full squad, with "empty" uniforms can be pretty frustrating. When being issued an order of rushing a flag, having two snipers hang back, does usually not help the squad...

I don't neccesarily think he was venting on you, but rather venting his frustration with the inability to capture the flag due to the fact that orders were not followed...

Besides the point is that I went in there all by myself, mauling 4 ppl, and capturing the flag by myself! Rambo was a sissy!

    Re: Squad Leaders, and ...

Actually, I wasn't talking about rich73, I have been dealing with this sort of thing for months now and I try to generalize, last night was not the first I had rich in my squad, so I by no means think he is a bad SM. If I had anything to say to rich it would have been said in a PM. Just as I don't think he was referring to me in his post. He has valid complaints, and a few points hit home to me.

Note though and I will say it again, I am not the the most patient SL when it comes to following orders to the tee, but I can name a few VETERAN TG SL's who would have kicked people like a had habit for less than I put up with nightly so I don't feel bad about my rep in regards to that. I am tough but fair, I give a more than fair amount of time for people to come around.

All that aside, if someone feels that I am going beyond my duties as an SL to get the job done and sort the wheat from the chaff. PM me and we will discuss it, no hard feelings but don't expect me to accept insubordination in-game, I don't do it you shouldn't. We are all mostly adults. No one likes losing, and even if we lose a round my squads usually feel vindicated in achieving the goals I lay out for them and the manner in which we achieve them. Yaaaaarghhhhh!

That is such a great point that many people forget I think. Many nights I will be in a good squad but the other team just outplays our team overall and pulls off the win. At the end of the game if my squad worked well together and my team lost, I will usually feel good about the round we played from our micro level.

There are too few people that will even try to lead a squad. So I will support anyone willing to hit the create squad leader button and stay as the squad leader. I do get tired of what I refer to as the bait and switch, starting a squad and then leaving, forcing someone else to lead, then rejoining.

I do find that I like to join other squads because I learn new ideas from how others lead a squad.

There isn't anyone that is a perfect squad leader to everyone. So thats a dead end

At the end of the day either support your local squad leader or leave and start your own squad.

The only thing that gets on my nerves when I lead a squad, is when I have someone constantly no following orders AND complaining about how the team is losing and it is our squads fault for not leading every charge.

    Re: Squad Leaders, and ...

Point taken. I refrained from naming names for a reason. My apologies. I had no intention of anyone's identity but my own to be known.

I understand how it is with no mic over VOIP. I was in CompUSA today to see their deals. They were out of mics. Typical.

I was actually way more annoyed by the other incident where I spawned as a sniper, nothing was said about kits til after spawn, and then was given hell about being a sniper, which I couldn't change until I died. I left the squad to form my own. But then there's the one man squad issue.

It is quite annoying when you try to go to another squad or form one, and then you catch grief about 1 or 2 man squads.

Changing kits is as simple as picking one up off the ground Rich, no need to wait for re-spawn. Follow Mantis for a minute or two and I guarantee you will have your choice of many, many enemy kits - most having never been used!
