C4 Suicide
Alright, I see this as an issue:
A tank or APC rolls up......a guy pops up, puts c4 on the tank, and blows it and HIMSELF up....
How is this NOT a suicide?

Re: C4 Suicide
If there's no effort made to get away from the tank before detonating, it is suicide and is against the rules. Please let us know who did it and the circumstances around it.
(That being said, C4 is dangerous stuff - I once blew up myself and 3 squadmates while trying to boobie-trap a flag - note to self: don't double-click the last C4 pack.

Re: C4 Suicide
I guess my point is: probably 6 or 7 times out of 10, the guy trying to blow up the tank kills himself. Whether an effort is made or not.
If you know that the majority of the time you're going to blow up, isn't this still suicide?

Re: C4 Suicide
I do that a bit but not on purpose. I am trying to get a safe distance away but sometimes I am not really as safe as I would think. OTher times its because I am getting shot at and about to die and I think I am far enough away but with having less health and getting any of the damage at all from it I die.
Now some people just run up and blow without trying to get away. If the person is trying to get away then I doubt they were trying to Jihad.

Re: C4 Suicide
Well, I just wondered what some people thought. I had hoped that this crap with walking up to the tank and blowing it up along with yourself was gone here, rather than the way it is on the vanilla side. Alas, it is not.

Re: C4 Suicide
Eh, I guess I was just frustrated after being in a tank with it so much.
Just wondered what other people thought. Maybe I'm being unreasonable.

Re: C4 Suicide
Read this for our suicide tactics rule: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/battlef...e-tactics.html
The key sentence to note being the following:
Lots of accidents happen in bf2 that result in a players unintended suicide. Our focus in on those intentional acts...tactics if you will, where the player intends to die or shows no care for his life. Some prime examples of this rule are jihad jeeps, ramming and driving around just to run people over(you know your joyride will be short lived). So do not focus on every instance where a player accidently misjudged his distance to his c4 blast or someone got surprised around a corner and shot an rpg at his feet. That happens to everybody no matter how hard they try not to.Suicide tactics are defined as any action which intentionally results in your death in order to take the life of another.|TG-12th|mantis

Re: C4 Suicide
Rich, right after you were discussing this with that person (forgot who it was), I did something similar - I planted C4, ran, tank backed up with me and kablooie. Got some sarcastic text remark aimed at me, but my intentions were to get away. It goes to intentions, and the only way we will know if its repeated, I guess.

Re: C4 Suicide
I know of clans who place C4 in the front of a non-armed vehicle ( jeep, truck, ATV...) hall a$$ straight at enemy tanks, squads or bases and ram just to blow everything up. The guy in the back or on top is the trigger man, and he and the driver usually bite it for the mission so their squad can rush in - where the suicide guys then spawn.
Effective: yes
Legal?
If the mission here is to play real like tactics, then that should be illegal as you can't respawn with your squad in real life...;-) Unless you believe in the virgins afterlife mentality (kidding)
Zippy
FYI: My source is my cousin who showed me this tactic about 6 months ago as his BF2142 clan =ZIN= challenged the [BAD] clan. I noticed it's pretty common now on Public servers, and their members are sliming over to the BF2 mods and spreading these tactics.

Re: C4 Suicide
There is no victory in blowing yourself up with the target. I think for any player that takes pride in their position as a spec op, their goal is to get away but accidental deaths happen for the reasons stated by others. It is true that some players may use suicide tactics, but I find that these are the types of players that can't help themselves and become immediate repeat offenders. Repeat offenders usually draw the attention of other players or admins and are dealt with according to the rules. I think if any player feels strongly that legitimate suicide tactics were used against them it is fair to simply ask "was that intentional suicide?" and give the other player a chance to respond.

Re: C4 Suicide
The answer to that question is a resounding NO!
Not on TG, it should be reported to an admin ASAP either ingame, or on Teamspeak. As FBMantis posted above, jihad jeeping and ramming are not allowed and should not be tolerated when it is either clear that it is intentional, or it is systematic to the point that it erases any doubt of circumstance.
Hint after being blown up, check the death message at the top left of your screen to see if the person died of the same device. please note their name for reporting purposes.
A good rule of thumb for C4ing vehicles, try to move to the side of the vehicle perpendicular to the C4 placed, you should have a better chance of blowing it and living, even when in close proximity. I have managed it a bunch of times with Dozers and survived with medium to minor damage inflicted.Last edited by kilevvri1; 01-09-2008 at 02:58 PM.

Re: C4 Suicide
I do usually die when trying to stop armor with C4... but then again, I'm still learning & practicing being a good Spec Op.

Re: C4 Suicide
A tip on the use of C4.
In BF2 any object that can block bullets can block C4 explosions. After setting C4 jump behind any close by object(tree, low wall, dip/rise in the ground, a fallen log, small rock). The key is to imagine the C4 shotting a bullet out in every direction from the center of it and making sure something is in between you and the C4.

Re: C4 Suicide
Fair enough. I see the logic...may not agree with it, but see it.
Then again, before their server crashed, I suggested to the POE folks that they take C4 out all together.
Will hopefully see y'all online later tonight.
