Question about 'diving'
First off let me say that it's been a real pleasure to find Tactical Gamers and POE2. I'm having a blast...well, mostly getting blasted...playing on the server.
I understand that bunny hopping is illegal, yet i know I'm guilty of it occasionally. Old Action Quake II habits die hard. My apologies if I've done it as your intended target.
I do have a question on rules in regards to 'diving'. With the emphasis on real mobility, hence no bunny hopping, is there a rule against diving? After playing last night and having multiple engagements where I had my opponent dead to rights but they literally go from a dead run to flying leap to prone, all the while opening up on me. Trick is, even if in the air, accuracy is set to prone which greatly increases accuracy...hence my dying a lot.
If there is an emphasis on real mobility, I would think that diving would also be illegal. At best going from a run/trot to taking a knee would be about the best you could hope for. Sure, you could go straight to a dive, but it's highly unlikely you'll hit squat.
Thanks again guys for running a great server! I really enjoy the teamwork and cooperation I'm seeing.

Re: Question about 'diving'
As far as I know, dolphin diving IS illegal. If you see someone doing this you should probably report them to an admin.

Re: Question about 'diving'
Hey Severe! Saw you on the server plenty - glad you found the forums!
Unfortunately, "Hitting the dirt" is ok. It's unfortunate, because, as you mentioned, BF2 is flawed in that it gives the diver an advantage: the animation you see doesn't affect the accuracy/view of the diver. There are two reasons why it's ok:
1) It's something that happens in real-life when lead (or paintballs
) start flying - unlike hopping 6ft straight up in the air to dodge bullets. So it's not hard to rationalize it as realistic.
2) Even if we wanted to prohibit it, such a rule just wouldn't be enforcable. "You can go prone, but you have to stop running first, may not move left or right while doing so, and may not fire until counting 'Two-Mississippi'". ??
Anyway - hope the helps... see ya round

Re: Question about 'diving'
Well - "Dolphin Diving" was illegal, but that was eliminated by DICE in the 1.4 patch... that's where you jump and go prone in the air:

That's not what we're talking about though... 'diving' here is just going prone while moving - the BF2 dude does this little dive animation... doing a roll to the ground if you're strafing at all when you go prone. Even though the observer sees the guy roll 3-4 times, from the first person, you just see yourself go prone, and (unfortunately) the accuracy-boost from being prone is instant...

Re: Question about 'diving'
Thanks for the quick clarification! Now I just need to find a new tactic that gets me killed less.

Re: Question about 'diving'
Point to remember Sever, you cannot shoot while jumping so you shouldn't even be able to get a shot off until you hit dirt. I think thats how it goes try jumping out of a window and shooting to see if I am right.
Whiskey can probably give you more insight into the specifics of this.
Long May the FFTHFF(5th) live in our memories and our teamplay.

Re: Question about 'diving'
basicly, you can "dive" if you mean strategicly coming to a halt when approaching somebody. otherwise the whole concept of prone would be altogether gone.. you cant just do it purposefully to increase accuracy and put somebody off..
nto a good explanation but i know what i mean XD

Re: Question about 'diving'
I am guilty of "diving" when I go face to face with someone. (not dolphin just prone) But I came to the realization the other night that I seem to die a lot looking at people's boots. From now on I'm trying to stay up right with hopes that my blood spray will sting the enemys eyes as I fall lifeless to the ground.

Re: Question about 'diving'
follow me around and stay about 30 feet away. I appear to glow a bright reddish orange, and attract bullets. just ask Khaerus...
I learned 'hit the deck' pretty quick. and now, run run run, prone is near automatic for me.
It was good playing with you last night Severe, I hope we get the chance to squad up more.

Re: Question about 'diving'
That's how I felt. The first couple of maps of the evening, my team seemed to be doing very well. As the night progressed, my day-glow appearance must have kicked in! I felt like everyone with a 'anti-materials' weapon had Severe seeking ammo. ;D As I lay looking at the sky so many times I thought, "...well, at least it's not raining!"
I'm still learning the nuances of POE2. I came over from Hard Justice to AIX (which ran horrible slow on my humble system) to finally land on POE2. So far the game intensity and teamwork has been great. I'm looking forward to getting a bit more game-time in this weekend.

Re: Question about 'diving'
First time I played POE2 was on Fallen with a big contingent of 5th, 12th, & 33rd members in attendance. It was a particularly full server with 55+ players. I was very humbled by the a$$ whooping I received. I think I finished the round with 1 kill and more than 30 deaths. I knew then and there that there was a lot to learn about this game.

Re: Question about 'diving'
Once again it seems we are having more talk about how not to die. I dug up this post where I compiled some of the links I find most illuminating about how to play POE.
