    Sniping with an AT kit.

Hey guys, and Girls, oh wait, uhm. ladies, represent!!!
    anyway...
I did some research before posting, and most of the threads were in regards to PR, when it comes to etiquette, and the AT rocket launcher. Word from Mosely who introduced me to POE and TG is that is highly uncool to launch AT at infantry. I can totally see that and agreed 100%.

Increasingly though, (when not getting sniped by a sniper rifle) I find myself 'facing off, mano a mano with another guy carrying around AT. I switch to my pea shooter, get 2 rounds off, and then I catch a rocket in the face. Say from like 50 feet.

I'm not throwing anyone under the bus here, but I'm not just eating pubbie rockets. Some guys I've seen all over the servers and sometimes in the forums. I just want a couple opinions... should I continue to be cool like Fonzi? Or should I blast infantry all over the place.

    Thanks in advance.

I think the AT weapons are fair game. In real life they are used that way and so when we made the standard round, we gave it a little splash so it is effective against inf while the AP round is only for inf and light vehicles. The only time where it is not kool to use it is when you are up close and will die (which I have done before by accident). These are just my opinions on how things should be and of how the weapons were coded because I helped with that part of the mod as well.

Problem number one is engaging anyone at 50 feet with a submachine gun (SMG). A SMG is a short range weapon, period. At that range, your shoulder launcher is the better weapon. Whether you wish to use it or not, is up to you. I'm all for the AT/AP and refuse to limit my targets with the kit.

If you look at the POE manual, the AT and AP rockets were made to damage infantry. There is a HAT kit that does nothing against infantry. I consider the issue solved with that. Really, the AT and AP kits are launched grenades. The HAT kit has the ability to penetrate then explode which is why it doesn't do much versus infantry.

Maybe they should have a minimum arm time like grenade launchers? At the moment AT/AP launchers are the ultimate close combat weapon. I think they ought to be more powerful but reload much slower. According to a quick search on google, there appears to be a minimum arm time for RPG-7s, and apparently it takes a minimum of 14 seconds to reload and rearm.

Crouched or prone, you can engage at pretty good ranges with those SMGs, providing you're on semi-auto. Just treat them like pistols with full auto.

Re: Sniping with an AT kit.

In PoE, the rocket weapons are acceptable to use on infantry, and as Greasy explained, they were designed with that use in mind. What we do not want is the type of situation where you are firing a rocket at guys 10 feet away (or 5 feet, or maybe 15- you get the idea.) 'Rocket suicides' are just that- suicides and not allowed. Accidents happen, but trends are gonna get noticed. (I had one such accident the other night- Sawviper surprised the yikes out of me. Man, I felt bad.)

I will agree the submachine guns are quite effective now from a crouch or prone position (since the 1.8 update.) For this reason, I make it a point to try to select this weapon at what I think are "SMG" ranges- for me, 60 feet or so is easily within that range. I also make a point to de-select the rocket weapon indoors. But that's how I try to play, not how anyone is required to.

I also had a moment like Khaerus' last night. Ended up killing myself and two others...felt like a total noob...

very good then. Thanks guys... in the PR forum those HARDCORE guys said no AT on infantry at all. : )

I'm glad everyone appears to be in agreement. I'll stop trying to switch to the pea shooter and getting killed, and I'll start lighting folks up.

I like the TG community, and would rather play by the rules and the code, than 'win'.

    Thanks again...

Keep in mind the AT in PR is guided... so you can literally snipe with them. In PoE2, as you know, they are unguided and have considerable drop due to gravity.. it's a much more difficult weapon to be effective with.

Umm actually last night I got in a nice head shot with a UKR HAT. I don't think the guy was very pleased by his epitaph message. And as for them being the ultimate short range weapon... I'd much rather have a german shotgun at close range than an AT or even AP kit.

PR/BF2 and POE are very different in this respect, see the mother of all AT-on-infantry threads here.

In PR it's frowned upon afaik.
