Unfortunately your game was more than 24 hours after you posted so I cant get the BR. I suspect that it was just the classic tag bug as you mentioned but I will keep an eye out for other similiar reports

To keep the thread from derailing; responding to the original post: this is a Battlefield 2 bug that you will see on vanilla and all mods that I've played. From time to time kill messages may pop up that didn't actually occur, team mates may have red tags and display enemy kill messages when they should indicate a teamkill (fratricide), or enemies may have blue tags and killing them gives you a fratricide message.
The best way to handle this nonsense is to log off the server, possibly your own account, then come back on, or ask the bugged players to do the same.
As far as I can tell, despite screwy kill messages and miscolored tags, kills give the appropriate points (or negative points). So you should indeed familiarize yourself with the color and shape of enemy uniforms, and the profile of enemy guns, on the off chance this bug happens to you.
