Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions

First impressions of the few maps that I played - Frost Village was awesome, although dark on my crappy HDTV LCD screen. I also enjoyed the small urban map, although some spawn points/CPs were literally across the street from the UCB. And the Orel-esque one (can't remember which one that was - maybe Frost Village?) was awesome too.

I wasn't on for the old vanilla maps, but am looking forward to trying those out, too.

I like the one with the trees, I thought it was very well-balanced. Also, the one with all the gunfire and explosions was pretty cool, too.

Wintershield was fun (yea yea, "He's an airwhore, his opinion is gonna be good about, blah blah blah..."). I honestly didn't get what the issue was. You didn't see me going 100-5 in an jet. says Smokey. But Smokey i think you were 58-0.
Overall good change of pace except wintershield.

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions

Here goes my opinion about the flags

Velikiye: Played that map briefly looks interesting with some forested areas and some urban warfare. I look foward to play that one again.

Wintershield: Same opinion as the majority of the guys around....two thumbs down.

Sharqui: Well cant say I didnt have fun on that one..... A classic that was fun before and is still fun. Only problem I see is there are too many flags and many of them end up undefended at all and action usually center on only a couple ones.

Frankfurt: Teams were too unbalanced last night to really appreciate the map but one big flaw I can see is the Hind isnt very usefull in urban combat compared to the Eurocopter.

Woodland: Im pretty glad this map is back Id play that one over the overplayed fallen anytime.

Trails: This one was the best new map of the lot, the 32 player one is great for APC duel. Hope to see that one on the regular rotation.

Fall of frankfurt: Map too small...I suggest to remove the tanks and do an infantry only map.

Dalian Plant: Is it a bug that the USMC static AA guns have close to unlimited range compared to the Ukraine ones?

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions

Hey fellas, thanks for all the input whether its good or bad. It helps me look at what needs to be tweaked, for im still a novice at this mapping mumbo jumbo. Also keep in mind these were originally created for organized tournament play. If there is ever an update or another mappack i will definitely listen and tweak stuff to the majorities liking. These are for everyones enjoyment, because i know new maps always keeps my interest in the games i play.

wintershield - i agree a bit bright, needs more vehicles and control points can use a lot more cover

frostvillage - a lot of folks had fps/lag issues; my guess its the many falling snow ambient affects, those will be removed.

berlin streets - personally i never crashed on this map, but please let me know what causes the crash if its ever discovered. and infy only is a good idea

fall of frankfurt - replacing attack helos with trans helos is a possibility

tuchola trails - my fav of all of them; its actually the only original map i created, the rest were merely remakes from the BF42 Desert Combat mod, but poe2 style.

Again, thanks for playing these maps, i hope you somewhat enjoy them. Sorry about all the bugs and I will release new versions hopefully in the future.

Don't change in the No Fly Zone flag....it's fun as hell to have to fight off other aircraft in order to keep a flag.

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions

well i heard some people lost interest in the bf2 ported maps due to playing them so often in vanilla. Would you guys be interested in more bf2 vanilla maps converted to poe2, like fall of frankfurt?

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions

Thanks to all the dev guys on these maps.

I enjoyed the vanilla maps being redone--they were fun. Wintershield was boring except we were in the forward flag next to Germany's base(I think) and Project's squad kept taking shots at us and that was fun.

Performance on all maps was down..

I kind of got bored. The map was just so big and open, I didn't know what to do with myself, so I hassled you guys at that flag, due to its challenging perch : )

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions

I loved Woodlands.. but the dingo(for the ukrainians) is unfair as the double zoom/power of teh weapon and the invulnerabliity of the drive compaired to the german open topped jeep with no zoom and a mg3 that only covers 160 degree field made me wanna cry whenever my SL said to attack a flag with the dingo on it other then that i think it's the best map to follow fallen in a rotation and the best to be released in the pack.

Wintershield was fun.. i like the open maps but it does need a faster way to get to flags, only 1 transport helo is not enough. Also could not see the hud on teh helos when looking at the ground, and had no perfomance issues on it.

Dalian Plant was a great return to vanilla the mod does work well on this map. i for one didn't like the unlimited range on teh american VADS being able to shoot from docks into teh Ukrainian UCB (or the lil valley coming out of it) when the Ukrainian AA systems have only 1/2 that range. But this map gets 3 thumbs up from me. (i found one of York's on the ground)

Frost village was laggy and the inside of teh buildings were too dark.. i kept getting lost going in and couldn't get out a few fixes could make that into a great assault and hold map.

Velikiye_Luki. love this map.. the rail yard is a great location for a flag as it was assaulted and changed hands constanly throught the match with great helo support on both sides.. i love this map.

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions

I like playing ported maps with TG gameplay. +1

I dont think I have played frost village yet.

Velikiye_Luki the Germans must hold the two northern flags in town to win. Fun map.

No fly zone flag = smokey rampage. I just cant kill the guy.

Tuchola trails is a fast paced action packed firefight.

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions

Outlaw good job on all maps....excellant work...but in frost village do remove the snow effect. But, chek some of the buildings you used and their poly counts. I noticed when ever I was on the edge of the village all my fps/lag prob went away...as soon as I was in the middle of the village, I was dogged down with the prob again. I to am a novice at map making but i've seen these probs when I was doing maps back in my DOD "Day of Defeat" days....with to many polygons on an object.
