Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions

I intend to assemble a squad to investigate these new maps in more detail tonight.

We got a chance to play Tuchola 64, Luki 64 and Frankfurt 64 last night. Keep those impressions flowing.

Tuchola 64 was fun. Luki 64 (the Mastur map I think) had way to many vehicles. At least it seemed that way to our squad. Frankfurt I didn't get to play.

Tuchola Trails 64
It was a fun map, non-linear with multiple aproaches. The only drawback I saw was having both artillery and mortars. Even then, you only became hamburger if you were out in the open.
Frankfurt
Neat city map. Could have done without the choppers. Will have to play it some more.
Velikiye Luki
Other than being raped by Namebot in the chopper multiple times , I really enjoyed this map. Plenty of open space for infantry to move. Armor had a big presence, but didn't seem overpowering. I'd play this again and again.

One other we played, the one with the flag on the boat (Woodland?). I really enjoyed that. Again, plenty of open space between flags for flanking and sneaking. No heavy armor to ruin the fun. It reminded me of Mantis' modded Fallen, another map I would love to see in the rotation.

I think there should be choppers, but not the attack choppers. Just the German transport and the Sokol (rocket version) for UKR. I also think it could do without arty. To me it's an infantry map, and the absence of attack choppers and arty would make it much more fun.

-Luki64: might be better off with a gun only version of the sokol rather than the rockets. The german transport has a much harder time pointing its nose down to fire between buildings and trees.

The Mashturr remake seems a bit small for attack choppers with guided AA missiles that lock on at half the map distance.

Overall I give Luki and Tuchola thumbs up. Except trails 16, its just silly.

Didn't Crimson rack up 50+ kills that map?

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions

Fact is, I'd keep the Super Sokol in. Reason being is because the Germans have two flags that are surrounded by tall buildings right near their main. This makes the Sokol a very easy target for enemy tanks patrolling the streets due to the fact it has to fly relatively low to the ground in order to get hits in. If it tried to go higher it would run the risk of slamming into a building.

I'm all for bumping up the respawn time a little though on both the choppers.

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions

Tuchola 64 not bad at that level. It's very hard to approach the center village area from the outer flags. The APC's can dominate very quickly and at distance, but it does make you be more cautious when on foot. The mines on both ends are a pain when they get back capp'd but thats just the design of the map.

Can't remember the name of the big snow map (**the one that Smokey luvs**) Only probs I see with that map are that the AA guns need to be up'd with their damage just a bit and please please please...at least put a coupla more jeeps at the center flags. Hard to probe forward on foot.

Otherwise all good content, I really havent seen any balance probs with the exception of Tuchola but thats workable. Alot of the prob on that is spotting and squad work. I have noticed that on the Streets of Frankfurt the flag changes are constantly happening from lack of defence. Everybody, including me captures and hauls it to the next flag only to lose the previous quickly.

good points. These maps are definitely much more fun in tournament style. But i do enjoy pubbing them on TG as well, since there are usually a couple organized squads.
