Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions
Wintershield performance was awful, and I'm far from alone on that.

I really didn't get to play any other new maps but wintershield. The Sharqi port was fun and nostalgic.

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions
I also had a serious fps drop on frostvillage, even more than on wintershield, which was way too bright for my eyes. Sometimes i felt like flying above the clouds. Maybe it's better on foot, but not in the chopper.
Loved the frankfurt/mashtuur map, it was new yet familiar. But we really need the fixed hud for this map to be enjoyable with choppers. I could never tell where the lock was coming from, when for some reason mantis didn't sneak up on us from behind. Aside from some annoying lag issues, these are very nice maps, thanks for the fans who made them. edit: also on wintershield, the no fly zone flag was uncapturable. In fact, there wasn't even a flagpole with a flag on it. I went there with a full squad, stayed near the flag for a couple minutes, but nothing happened. I guess we need to cap other flags first to cap the no fly zone, or it's a strange bug. |

Frost Village has massive performance issues too.

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions
Yea Frost Village was in bad shape..I did notice that if I got on the edge of the Village my performance smoothed out greatly, but, when I was in close to the center it went to the jerky mode. I think the only prob with that map is the building objects on some of them. The map author may have used some buildings with some high poly counts and it was loading down the draws on our puters...
Wintershield was way to bright and way way to open. The only thing that saves that map is the terrain height differences. Last gripe the one map (can't remember the name - camp something camp) on 16 player all the flags are basically across the street from each other and it generates to much chaos to be tactical. On the larger version of that map, its basically straight on and the gameplay is almost like the Blue Nile map IMO...and could actually use more cover. Great big kudos on the frankfurt/mashtur map. Very very nice redux. A coupla of the original vanilla maps, personally I would take them out or do a redux on them, I seriously felt like I was in regular vanilla again. Otherwise lots of fun, some lag on some which could be fixed easily with some tweaking. |

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions
Well I got slapped with the "you never played Vanilla" Stick, many times.
listening to folks in TS talk about maps as they loaded. I just didn't have that experience, of knowing which direction enemy forces will typically assault a flag from... or knowing the lay of the land at all. I was such a noob all over again. I'd sing some Madonna for you all, but... the first map I saw was the big white blur. I played about 4 minutes of that one, and was less then excited about seeing it again. maybe more helo, and no ground forces would fix that one. I did get to 'polar bear' one of those big lakes. but instead of greeting me with a towel and a cup of spiked hot cocoa, as I got back to the camp to warm up someone shot me. rude. one of the city maps was fun. sitting back in the middle of a roof, and waiting for people to try and climb the ladder on the next building. I like new maps generally. levels the playing field, I feel a little. fixing old maps and reintroducing them. I'll need some more early evening 8 on 8 time to just figure out what is where on the map.

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions
It was a fun night overall! Some thoughts...
I was surprised at the number of people who hadn't played the vanilla maps before (as Parkbench mentioned). For example, I had a full squad on Sharqi and I think 2 of the 6 had little to no experience with it. As SLs I think we'll need to remember to take that into account. Now having said that, I still have mixed feelings on the vanilla maps in general. While they may be fun for the first couple of runs here, how long is it going to take for them to get old again for those of us who have played them zillions of times? But then again, our new map set on the TG server may get big enough where it isn't an issue. ![]() Winterpark was certainly hard on the eyes and I agree that it is going to be mostly fun for the flyboys. The only problem I saw from a technical perspective was the last round I played which had the 2 flags in the middle close together on opposite sides of a road. As SL my in game VOIP was shot which kind of sucked because I was apparently just talking to myself for a good 15 min. lol It also largely defeated the purpose of having a VOIP DEF squad. Also, I had a SM who dropped to desktop twice during that round; he ended up giving up and calling it a night. Bernout |

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions
First off, thanks to anyone that spent time producing, testing and tweaking the new map pack.
And now on to the impressions. Wintershield was probably a enjoyable map for 8 people. The rest of the players got to experience the long drive to then get strafed by (insert some piece of aircraft). Overall I think the map could only be playable with a solid commander on both sides and even then it would be still subpar. Sharqui Reloaded was a decent time, especially with no choppers. I could see this being as regular map as it was during Vanilla. Fall of Frankfurt(Mashtuur) was nice to see but I think it needs some tweaks. Playing as Ukraine I was not able to see much of the other flags. But the ones I did see seemed to favor holding them as the Germans. I forget the flag names but I think Hotel? The flag by the south bridge is neat with the new statics, but there is no place to cover the flag placing as UKR. Personally I think removing the Attack Helos and maybe a slight flag placement tweaking would make it enjoyable. I forget the name, but the infantry forest map with the Watchtower flag on the big hill was fun as always. It seemed to have better performance. Overall a pretty fun night, I will say I will not be playing Wintershield again. Too bright, too wide open, and zero fun for anyone in contact with the ground.

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions
Wintershield was fun (yea yea, "He's an airwhore, his opinion is gonna be good about, blah blah blah..."). I honestly didn't get what the issue was. You didn't see me going 100-5 in an jet. (That's directed at you, Saitcho.
) And the issue with it being bright is moot. Guardian is way harsher on the eyes.Fall of Frankfurt was hella fun. Sharqi...I really didn't enjoy it that much. I never liked it in vBF2 and PoE2 only makes it marginally less irritating. (Not to mention Saitcho's ability to call down a pinpoint ion cannon strike wherever you're hiding. )

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions
First of all, thank you map designers for the new play toys and thank you devs for releasing them.
I think I liked Luki the best. Frost Village would also be great if the performance issues could be worked out. Sharqi with no choppers? Because of the superior weapons in POE2 and lack of choppers, I fear armor and snipers will be especially annoying. Wintershield- The FAA pulled my license for flying through the NO FLY ZONE ![]() Yay, woodland is back! Berlin Streets caused a crash to desktop. The rest were ok, but maybe not all that memorable to me. |

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions
With Bf2/POE maps, i find it takes at least 5 plays of a map to really get a feel for it. The only thing I didn't like immediately was that flag on wintershoe that was way up in the air.

Re: Map Pack - lets hear those first impressions
oh I forgot one thing that was cool... I think on one Map, in a city. There's a Dingo/Dozer that looks like it was parked by me. (in this impossible spot) but the fence in front of it can be destroyed, and then you can drive the thing out. That was pretty cool.
I understand more recent FPS releases you can effect the environment. This little bit of that was interesting. Why you park a truck in there and then build the fence I don't know.. but heck, maybe someone with my 'skill' did park it there.
