Re: Team Switching

I stay on the side the server puts me on when I join. I never switch unless the server switches me or I am asked to. I get irritated when I see people switch mid round and I am the one who gets to fill the void left by the switcher. I have a lot of friends here, so switching sides to be on a buddies team makes little sense to me. I don't recall being on a team without at least one person I consider a buddy.

Re: Team Switching

A lot of times if a team loses badly, the next round that team will be missing quite a few players. Team switching to the "better" team is also a problem. And whatever the reason may be, it has gotten very bad lately. I remember I use to play on the same team the whole night, never having to switch, all the time. Now I often have to switch to balance the teams at the beginning of a round. Very annoying.

Re: Team Switching

I think it would help out alot if the Admins had the final say as to whether or not a person can switch sides. It just seems odd that a few players are NEVER on opposing sides and NEVER without their favorite asset.

Re: Team Switching

I find it a bit frustrating when the auto switch kicks in and sucks a squad-mate away from our squad, then they player pwns me for the rest of the round cause they knew exactly what the SL ,and the squad were doing. plus...

I think most of us target the SL when we figure out who it is. The switchee already knows who were the SL on the former side.

I see the need for balancing the teams cause 2-3 people makes a lot of difference. Feels as though our target audience are people who don't come to the forums though. *shrug*

I don't see a way to "fix this"

Re: Team Switching

Is there any way to know from the Admins perspective if someone switched?
Can we add it to the SOP's and TG Primer? If so then we could start calling people out on it just like we do with alot of our rules.

Re: Team Switching

I think if anything offical is made, you will just see a bunch of people saying "Oh nice going teamswitcher, read the rules!" when maybe the person was just autobalanced or they had been on that side previously and had been disconnected. I think it is ok to teamswitch to play with a friend once in a while. I used to do it on Project Reality plenty, I wouldn't have had fun otherwise.

People who switch just to be on the winning side or to use an asset like a chopper or sniper rifle I don't like, especially when they wear the TG tags.

Auto balance does need adjusting. I got sick and tired of being switched twice a night to make up a different in teams of two guys... come on. Is it worth it to disrupt my night of gaming? Half the time I just end up leaving after this happens, defeating the point.

I kind of wish that the teams didn't swap after rounds aswell. I like playing on one team all night and sometimes I feel like switching to keep playing on one side. For some reason I feel more motivation to win when I play as one faction all night. Plus it really sucks when you are in a good squad and it gets split next round. Why was this put in place to begin with?

Re: Team Switching

Gahlas has a lot of good points. Like the people crying WITCH! in Salem MA, there's going to be a lot of finger pointing at ppl that probably never meant to switch.

Even though I dont switch very often anyway, the idea that if you did it, you would get called out / be treated like a dolphin-diving / plane stealing / jihading sniper, doesn't offer itself to a fun night of gaming, imo...

You guys make the rules, but it seems to me that it would be better handled as a TG'er that is ingame saw "X", and share with Mantis/someone with his face in BF2CC.

Re: Team Switching

Trust me Gahlas, i dont want to start "calling people out" but we both know it is spiraling way out of control.

Forgive my ignorance but, was there a time when a player could play as the same faction for the entire night?

How does the "Auto Balance" choose which person to switch?

I'd suggest doing the opposite, instead of calling people out for teamswitching, speak up when you think that teams are off. I don't care if Joe Pubbie switches teams, the only thing that matters is whether the game is relatively balanced.
So after a couple rounds of getting slaughtered, there's nothing wrong with asking some people to switch over and help out. You will see people step up and do it.

There was a time when you played on one side the whole night yes.

The Auto balance works by detecting that one team is at least 2 players down, and then moving the first person who gets killed on the larger team.

Re: Team Switching

What happened to playing on one side the whole night?

Im guessing people started to complain that they could not use their favorite asset and just switched sides.

Re: Team Switching

Here Here Fallen.

I like that, and would switch if asked. Guessing some would be sore about it

...but the more they see non-TG'ers switching when asked, the more they would consider it the norm.

Re: Team Switching

Who would switch to be on the winning team? With no permanent stats, I cannot believe anyone would do that. But I imagine people get their kicks different ways.

I can understand switching because one team is obliterating the other. Spawn-snipe-spawn-snipe is certainly no fun. Here are a couple ideas i have on the matter
1) An admin could end the map early if the sides are unbalanced. I personally don;t like this idea too much. There is enough complanting about this map or that map at the start of the round as it is. Having the admins do this on a regular basis would only make the complants snowball.

2) In my experience, the maps with two UCBs and few or no vehicles are the ones that have the worst unbalance issues. That pains me to say, because they are also the best maps when the teams are even.

3) The teamswitching in this thread (to get favorite weapons, or to win the round) are examples of poor sportsmanship. Maybe the offenders just need a little reminder of this?
If you happen to be on the team doing the slaughtering, how about letting someone else fly the chopper, or use the tank, or the uber sniper kit. Use it as an opportunity to try out a kit you don't use regularly. Instead of attacking the flag the same tired way, try a new approach direction, or a different weapon. Or spam med kits everywhere. Teabeg a friend -- try it while they are still alive.

If we all work together, we can move mountains. No challenge is too great or too difficult. It takes a village to raise a child. And only YOU can prevent forest fires. So whaddya say, are you willing to give sportsmanship a chance?

Re: Team Switching

Honorable players can work on the honor system. Team switching for non-balance issues like gaining an asset is bad form. Unfortunately, connection issues happen or sometimes a player may have to log off for a round and come back for whatever reason and that is better than sitting there afk. If I have to do that I always attempt to join the same team that I left. It usually works out. It is hard to know the details every time and we do not need accusations between players during the game flying around.

I would hope that for the most part we can be honorable sports among ourselves and know that now the awareness has been raised again we can trust one another to do the right thing. If it still seems to be a problem, IMO, a person should PM one of the game admins with your specific concern and the admin can PM the player with a "heads up" message. I hope that since this issue has been very tastefully raised that out of common respect for one another we can collectively handle this ourselves.

Couldn't agree with you more jb4 - well said.

Being on the West Coast, the amount of players drops off as it gets later into the night and we loose the East Coast players, so the server can end up with 4 on 9 until the auto balance kicks in - which oddly enough seems to take a while. In those cases many players recongize the imbalance and switch over to even things out. It can work well that way as jb4 mentioned, if you have guys who want to be fair. I hope we encourage that style of fair play.
