Crash to Desktop-ing
anyone get a lot of C2D's? I just built this PC, so it may just be my rig running a little too close to the edge or something, but figured I'd ask... I fell out of each map at least once.

I have had no reports from the general population about CTD's at all from all of yesterdays play.

Re: Crash to Desktop-ing
No crashes for me......bunch of disconnects and punkbuster was acting up a again on me also. Had to totally shut down, restart, clean memory, manual update then it seemed to stabilize a better. I was having some bad ping rates also. But this is not the only mod or game its happening to from what I've been hearing.
Still had a blast!

Re: Crash to Desktop-ing
When that was happening to me frequently the last time, the actual culprit was my memory sticks getting too hot. I swapped out my high-end sticks for some quality low-voltage sticks and haven't had that same problem since. Check that out- it was the last thing I suspected, and was kicking myself when I finally figured it out.

Re: Crash to Desktop-ing
If your sticks are 2.0v sticks or higher, chances are that they are getting a little warm even at stock, especially on a warm day- obviously, if you can rig a temp fan and blow right on them, that's a quick and easy way to test it out. A lot of the hotter sticks run 2.1v and such, and OC'd, well that can be an issue...
The sticks I switched to are 1.8v Gskills, and I use them in all my rigs now:

I did give up overclocking, though, just as a caveat (I don't see the need anymore.) The point being: I don't know how those Gskill will handle OCing, if you want to go that route.OPS, the bacon is on you.

Re: Crash to Desktop-ing
I had a few early ctd due to a punkbuster .dll even though my files were up to date. Opening the BF2 dump file with Windows Debugging Tools tells you most of the time what the problem is for file conflicts
but I do not think it would catch the memory overheating.
Nice tip Khaerus. If you use debugging the commands ".ecxr" and "!analyze -v" you usually see what is wrong. I generally ran fine on all maps and did not have lag.|TG-12th| jb4

Re: Crash to Desktop-ing
I've been playing BF2 Vanilla/AIX/N@W and have been getting CTD's on all. Other people have also been complaining. It is a EA/Planet problem I believe. Someone said EA/Planet are looking into it. Maybe they are just trying to get us so annoyed that when BF3 comes out we will immediately buy it to end the BF2 frustration.
Go to the Evenbalance site and download the PBSetup program so you can manually update PB before playing and it will help with the PB thing.
I am downloading 2.5 tonight after work so I can get my POE2 fix! You can kill me later or maybe I'll get lucky!

Re: Crash to Desktop-ing
Yea I have a few CTD's and those disconnection messages also...I just wrote it off as my own fault tho due to there being no pattern behind it.
