High pings, DTC's, PunkBuster issues....
Been researching the "internets" for solutions..... complete failures...lol
High pings are being reported just not in PoE, but in just about everything BF2 related. Even in 2142 and other games there have been some high ping probs... Solution? prob unfixable from the player standpoint atm.
CTD's are being related to whatelse PunkBuster......
Possible help for PunkBuster here...some is old and some is new.

Re: High pings, DTC's, PunkBuster issues....
Just a quick update.... I had to follow the example on the totalgamer link last night. My punkbuster bit the dust and got corrupted somehow. Went thru each step and reinstalled and the game loaded even a bit better. Hope it lasts

Re: High pings, DTC's, PunkBuster issues....
when I was getting punked last night. I downloaded the 2 files and dropped them in the htm folder in pb. and everything was good.
I got in, and then proceeded to suck... but thats my own fault. this release feels like learning to ride a bike again.

Re: High pings, DTC's, PunkBuster issues....
hahaha - you can say that again! after almost 2 months away (summer/family/etc), the rust is definitely there for me
I'm LOVING the new content though... the maps are gorgeous!
worst part is I can't get VOIP working on my new PC for some reason - after playing BF2 with VOIP for almost 3 years, it's painful running around in silence!!!

Does your mic have a little switch on it for mute? mine does. and it gets mysteriously switched on once and a while.

In the folder you will se a folder named "pb"

Re: High pings, DTC's, PunkBuster issues....
Punk Buster has told me that they are "investigating" some of the issues. There seems to be several (which we all knew). BTW Cougar, you have to remove all the reg. keys for a clean install. Just deleting the PB folder has only helped a few folks out. Some have to go the long way and delete the key in the register.
Anyways one of the things i've found out also is that punkbuster is so sensitive that any lag at all when the PnkBustrB is executing will cause a handshake error. Would explain why I get the error when starting the game and the server is on a certain map it will error me out. Lovely huh.... I imagine if we all had a puter that only has the O/S, PunkBuster and BF2 w/ Poe on it. Prob wouldnt ever have a problem....heh
My system is actually down to the handshaking problem, so its a continued process on this issue.

Re: High pings, DTC's, PunkBuster issues....
Heres another solution... I'm guilty of this one also and will fix when I get home this evening.
did you copy the security files from PB to your bf2/ PB folder? also did you DL the PBsetup to your bf2/pb folder? you have to run the PBexe. from the BF2/ PB folder, not the desktop or anywere else , then afterwords go to start then run and type in services.msc then scroll down to PnkBstrA and then under task click start, then in properties select automatic, restart computer, also make sure it is listed in your firewall exception list/allowed and then check to make sure its running in the process under your windows task manager.
Note #2: If you are being kicked for a "Communication Failure" it is likely that something on your computer is preventing the PnkBstr services from communicating with each other.
And check your firewall to allow PB A and B to have access. Easy way to get there is bring up the control panel / windows firewall - when the firewall window pops up click on the "Exceptions" tab and scroll to see if you have both PB's A and B files listed.
Also theres alot of buzz about malware will effect PB because if changes user rights. I ran spybot last night and did fine some adware going (cursed porn sites). Also theres been some questioning about faults in your RAM. PB checks the ram for .exe files hiding in it and bad ram or even RAM thats running to hot (Khaerus brought this up the other day) can be a possible problem.
A common cause for this is a security or anti-virus program. McAfee and other popular security/firewall programs need to be told to allow the PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB services to run without restriction (even if you turn them off while playing). Until you locate and remove the restrictions on PnkBstrA and B, you will continue to be kicked for this.
If you've never manually installed the PunkBuster services, you might want to try that as well. Download the service installer from http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe and run it. You might also want to reinstall the services using this tool.
Please make sure that both PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe services are set to start automatically every time your computer starts. Go to: Start menu, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and change PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB to start automaticallyLast edited by ThaGoat; 07-30-2008 at 10:56 AM.
