Thumbs up Do's and Don'ts - how not to die so much

Since there's a lot of new/returning faces, I figured it'd be helpful to have a refresher thread on this stuff... I'll start with two:

Do: In your tank, switch to Sabot rounds for armor and HEAP on everything else (including aircraft)
Don't: shoot a jeep w/ a sabot and expect it not to pierce straight through without destroying it.

Do: Fire while prone or kneeling.
Don't: Fire while running (or if using support gun, don't even fire while standing still)

There's no accuracy penalty for kneeling or going prone - you get the improved accuracy instantly. Also - Since BF2's infamous "cone of fire" isn't present in PoE2, single-shot is extremely deadly at anything but close range... you hit what you aim at for the most part.

<aim> TAP-TAP-TAP-TAP = kill.

whachu got?

Re: Do's and Don'ts - how not to die so much

Do: Capture flags at least by kneeling or moving around the radius watching for enemy. Laying down limits your view of the area for enemy approaches.

Don't: Lay down in the radius especially in a room or building next to a flag. Your legs will stick thru the walls and you can be shot or knifed. Remember your point of view is really centered at or about the belt buckle hence the ability to expose your legs thru walls when in the prone position.

Do: Lay C4 in the flag radius to eliminate any capture attempts.

Don't: Lay claymores at the flag radius's. They will be mistaken for C4 and you will most likely recieve a punishment since your teammates will be respawning at the flag areas. Only use your claymores as a self protection for your backside around your favorite sniping spot.

Next pls...

This is an oldie, but a goody.

Don't drop ammo and medic bags when trying to be stealthy. Those helpful markers show up for both friend and foe alike. If you need to heal-up or resupply while on the move, hang on to the bag.

Do: Hide behind bushes, trees, boxes, building, and building debris.

Don't: Hide in long grass and expect to remain hidden. The grass is a functions of graphics settings and view distance. Just because you see long grass doesn't mean that guy shooting you does.

Re: Do's and Don'ts - how not to die so much

Do's: When playing medic if you have a corpse not respond to a shockpaddle, quickly get out a medpack and hit the body with it moving it some. Sometimes the body can be stuck in the environment and not allow a revive.

Don't: Revive squadmembers when hostile guns are trained on them. Clear the area if you can with your rifle, or use a smoke grenade to give them some cover to run. Letting them know the revive is coming is also useful, although it is something I allows forget to do. (Then again I like to subscribe to the berserker technique of reviving and love running into hails of long range gunfire to revive people)

Re: Do's and Don'ts - how not to die so much

Do: Spot your targets before you fire. There's no commander UAV or scan in PoE, spotting is essential to getting your teammates to notice incoming threats.

Don't: Use full auto except in very short distances. Most PoE weapons[1] are extremely accurate and far more lethal in single-shot mode. Don't forget to aim for the head or torso.

[1] The UKR spec ops gun (AS Val) and the US support gun (M249 SAW) are highly effective in full auto.

Dependent on the person. I usually use the medic guns on full auto unless the enemy is prone, then I will use single shot.

Here are so general tips. They may or may not keep you alive but they will help your team and squad out a ton.

Do: Pay attention to your surrounding at all times.
Don't: Stand still, ever.

Do: Get on the flag when attacking ASAP.
Don't: Go prone to shoot at enemies while trying to get to the flag you are assaulting. The flag needs you, if you kill the enemy before you are on it he will just repspawn and take you out.

Do: Put some space between you and your team mates.
Don't: Cluster together. One grenade, C4, AT round, HEAP round, Arty round will take you all out. Avoid bumping into teammates as well. They might be trying to hit an enemy and you just messed up their shot.

Don't: Toss down medic bags, ammo bags randomly about the place you are defending. Sure it gets you points but your enemy will often find it more convenient than your teammates.
Do: Designate an ammo dump or triage location that teammates can go to. Toss down all your bags here and make sure everyone knows where it is.

Do: Be quite. Your squad does not need to know if you just saw some guy blow up or that you just got shot in the middle of assaulting a flag. Inform of enemy locations using your directions (N,S,E,W), if you are losing the flag, an important asset respawned.

Don't: Pick up the sniper kit unless you’re SL asks for it. This kit is probably the hardest to be effective with and help your team/squad. Another AT, Support, Medic will not hurt the squad, chances are a sniper will.

I will post some more if I think of them.

Re: Do's and Don'ts - how not to die so much

Do: Spawn on your flag (rather than your SL) as much as possible, while defending a flag.

Don't: Spawn in on your SL and immediately go prone and start firing- you've gotta get up and outta there without drawing attention to your squad's spawnpoint, and usually that goes hand in hand with getting in that flag radius on a cap...

Do: use VOIP coms with discipline when the action gets hairy: If you note incoming attackers, mention your flag as your reference point, and the cardinal direction from that point. Everyone in the squad instantly knows what's going on, and you can't really get too confused about "North, South," etc, whereas "that building over there!" doesn't really translate that well in VOIP...

Don't: spend too much time talking about how/where you died, and what killed you- your SL probably knows even before you can say so, and should be ordering the rest of the squad to counter- orders that get drowned out if more than one guy is talking.

Do: give regular "clear" calls when you're watching a zone.

Don't forget to glance at your flag regularly, to make sure it's still showing your colors- we've got plenty of sneaky players around here that take a flag right from under your nose, if you're not paying attention!

Ed: Gahlas beat me to a few of my favorites. We might have squadded up together a few times...

Do: Follow the chain of command it is a lot more fun if your entire team is on the same page. Take an active role in your squad, be vocal and precise.

Don't: Take a fast mover if someone is using it as a defensive asset.

Since my area of expertise is the spawn screen:

DO ask your squad leader for any special kit requests prior to spawning in.

DON'T ignore your squad leader's request and helpfully spawn in as a sniper while an enemy tank is busy capping the flag your squad is supposed to defend.

Re: Do's and Don'ts - how not to die so much

Dont: Destroy an abandoned enemy vehicle. Destroying it only makes it respawn in a more favorable position for the enemy.

Do: Destroy resupply crates before attacking the vehicles getting repaired from it.

Don't: Run over friendly mines

Re: Do's and Don'ts - how not to die so much

Do: learn where to aim for maximum damage on enemy tanks or to protect your own tank. See POE forum here (you may need to log in)

Do: Read this post Whiskey Six put together from many sources.

Do: use stealth, cover, high ground and flanking to engage other tanks. You have a better chance to back off, repair and engage again.

Do: Always look to revive your SL when they are down, it becomes a top priority. Also revive other SLs if they are near you. It is good for the team. The Medpack Bump Sawviper mentioned is priceless for us medics.

Do: play the role you agreed to play. re: dead medics cannot revive your lead assaults or SL. Know when to hang back. IMO, the teamwork award at the end of a round is a prized accomplishment.

Don't: Place claymore around flags. You will do more harm than good to your own team.

Don't: abandon armor until it is destroyed. Die with your tank or the enemy may use it against you.

Don't: Be a sniper and take a plane, armor or vehicle to use as a taxi.

Don't: automatically assume others are hacking if they get the best of you. Read the forums. There is a TON of great information posted by a wealth of players. read, study, listen grasshopper...you will get better every day you play.

Do: have some fun. This is a great place to play with excellent players and interesting personalities. It is the game we love and we are all in it together.

Re: Do's and Don'ts - how not to die so much

Dont: lock one man squads.

Do: while capping a flag throw smoke when flag goes neutral.

Dont: always go for the knife kill. (unless its a sniper than, well, you know)

Do: Defend Flags!!! Nothing worse than just zerging from flag to flag.

Do: As SL, pay attention to the other squads. Communicate with the other SL's on whos going where and doing what.

I was actually going to put this on my Don't list, I guess it is a situational thing. If your whole squad is on the flag, never toss a smoke grenade. One guy could run right up to you and kill the entire squad because you can't see outside the radius. A lot of players lag to death from the smoke grenades as well. I used to get about 3 fps in a smoke cloud before I upgraded. If you have a good shot on the flag with you, he probably doesn't want that smoke there because he can eliminate the enemy as they approach.

Smoking is good for revives, when you are under fire and need to escape, moving in close to a well defended flag and to cause diversions (Toss a smoke grenade the opposite direction you are approaching and the enemy will run that way!)
