It's..... ALIVE
I'm sure you'll all be relieved to know that sometime around 2:30 this morning I finally got VOIP working again!!!! \o/ god, I had no idea how frustrating it is to play without making contact reports and without explaining SL orders - I got by dropping SL way-points like a mad-man, but it's such a chore!!!
ANYWAY... apparently BF2 doesn't like the Realtek HD audio chipset that came on my new Biostar TA770 motherboard. (Which is too bad, because, surprisingly, it turned out to sound quite clean!) I installed an Audigy4 a few days back, and specified that as the default device to use under sound options - still didn't work. Finally, last night, I went into Device Manager, highlighted the Realtek HD and clicked 'disable'... Fired up BF2VoipSetup.exe and VIOLA!!! SOUND!!!

Ah well welcome back Whiskey's voice! I had alot of realtek problems as well but my problem was that there was alot of feedback and that was because i had my stereo mixer on.
Welcome back anyway.

Re: It's..... ALIVE
That's good news. Unfortunately for me I can't hear anybody's mic. Weird, never had it happen before. Last night I kept telling Project his mic wasn't working, lol, didn't realize it was me until later. I built a new computer and put vista on it, so apparently there are some game settings messed up or something.

I feel your pain man....this is my 2nd 770 board. Good luck with getting SATAII to work in AHCI mode. Tried to help out AMD in return for several cheap gaming rigs they allowed me build. Chipset sucks.

I had a similar problem a while back and it is because, I think, there is a driver that is missing because for some reason there is another driver for digital sound that XP has trouble with...for my board it is called a realtek hda audio driver...I think we have the same the same audio chip even though they are different boards...mine is here:

Hope it helps...

I have to disagree with you here. I think it is great. AHCI, from what I have read, really does nothing for performance. My understanding is that all you have to do is have a floppy at install and you are in though I do agree that Microsoft should have done something about that with sp3. I have built two systems with the chipset and have had no problems at all except when I tried to fight for AHCI which I understand to be no help in gaming. Let me know if you have any other info that states otherwise.

Did you find a driver that worked? The realtek driver from the Biostar website it didn't work - hmmm... maybe I'll try a realtek driver from somewhere else? <shrug>
what version is the driver you're using?
edit: nvm - just realized you linked to you're driver <smack>

I don't have enough time to post a lot of links but here are a couple-
xttx://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahci
"AHCI controller on AMD/ATI SB600 HBA can't do 64-bit DMA transfers. 64-bit addressing is optional in AHCI 1.1 and the chip claims it can do them, but in reality it can't, so it is disabled. After that it will be forced to do 32-bit DMA transfers. Thus DMA transfers will occur in the lower 4 GiB region of the memory, and bounce buffers must be used sometimes if there is more than 4 GiB of RAM"
xttx://forums.amd.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=12&threadid=90588
If you google something along the lines of "SB600 AHCI problems" you will find a ton of posts. I reinstalled Vista 64 this past weekend and although my drive is running much better in AHCI mode- it is still running way under expected SATAII performance. I didn't realize the severity of the problem until i benchmarked it with Sandra. While it was running in Native IDE mode i was getting in-game lag spikes related to disc access etc. Thankfully at least those are now in the past. This is the last hurdle in getting Vista running optimally- otherwise it is screaming fast, and I like it very much.
Opps now i see why i was having trouble posting this-

Re: It's..... ALIVE
I have a board that is AMD 770, but it has the SB 700 not the 600. It is the Foxconn A78AX-S. I wondered why they switched, now I know why. I did have a little issue with my Asus M3A, but it was fixed in Vista SP1...I wonder if your issues might be fixed in SP3 if you use XP.

There is very good news coming out from Anandtech concerning the SB750....i can't post direct links, and prolly shouldn't be trying to circumvent the process with edited links so just mosey on over to anandtech and search for the "AMD SB750 Update.. 9600BE...Sort of..." article. Sounds great.

Re: It's..... ALIVE
Go here for info on how to fix that situation Whiskey. Once you look around a bit and it seems like the thing you need, you can go here to download the hotfix.
