    Ticket Bleed

There was a lot of flag hopping going on last night (cap a flag, then abandon it and move to the next).... I have to think that people might not fully understand what ticket-bleed is, how it works, and how to leverage it tactically.

What it is: Simple, if you hold more flags than the enemy, they will begin loosing tickets. The greater the discrepancy, the more tickets per minute the enemy will loose.

Bleed indicator: You don't have to open the map and count flags to know who's bleeding. Just looking at the score in the top right of the screen tells you - the team with the blinking score is bleeding tickets.

How to leverage bleed: DEFEND! It's not a 100%, no other tactic is valid thing - but it's important to understand the huge advantages that defenders hold over attackers, and that putting the other team on bleed lets you play as defenders. You can rack up a ton of kills playing defense. Defenders can stay hunkered-down, firing from cover, while the attackers have to cross open-ground. Defenders have two spawn points (the flag and SL), while attackers only have their SL to spawn on. Defenders get reinforcements and attackers don't (teammates not in your squad can spawn at your flag and help keep you from getting overrun AND you may have armor that respawns at your flag should it get destroyed)

So - next time you see the enemy's score blinking, consider having your squad defend an undefended flag! There ARE downtimes when nobody's attacking, but unless you've got extreme ADD, you should still be able to have fun - use that time to get your junk in order and find some great cover.

oh.. and if your SL sends you on an attack mission while you have the enemy on bleed, make sure you let them know the what's going on with bleed. [Of course, you have to follow orders (even if their 'stupid'), so if they insist on attacking, you're along for the ride.]

Excellant... alot of peeps don't understand the word "Defense". They want to rush the next flag cause they wanna kill kill kill all the toons. Hence the "Ring Around The Rosie" game begins with the flags. Easier to pop someone when your in the defensive mode IMO. They always come to attack when they wanna knock off the bleed. Patience....is a virtue.

You don't have to be physically at the flag to be defending it either, clays and C4's are great 'sleeping soldiers' that can warn you of an attack on a flag.

I'm not sure I'd agree with this. Claymores are a bad idea due to the chance of TKs unless you're pretty sure nobody is going to spawn at the flag. And C4s I've rarely seen be effective if nobody is actively watching the flag. You'd need to wait for it to go neutral and C4 doesn't usually kill ALL of the attackers.

I'm a big fan of doing defense and if it is a contested flag it can be just as much fun as just attacking all the time. And oh so much more satisfying.

I would rather defend. I get frustrated when my team just attacks without defending. IMO that was one of the things BF2 encouraged with the UAV and Commander Nukes making it less rewarding to defend.

If my squad wants to attack even well after we have the bleed then I will either look for a squad that is defending, or start my own.

I'll say when I SL, and name a squad DEF. it still fills. but I start to feel bad when members aren't doing anything. I mean, no shovels or sandbags... what can you do?

I get a bit antsy, but I do feel like I'm making the game boring. thats usually when 1 or 2 guys wander. I can't blame them really. but I'm defending for a reason.

reading the posts about liking to defend is encouraging. I hate booting people from my squad when they are off attacking when DEF orders are up.

If things are boring during defense, give each soldier something to do... I know I love getting orders and specific responsibilities.. makes me feel specialer.

Bring the map up, right-click and use the SL-waypoints to dole out coverage areas. "Drunk, you go here <waypoint by southern out of bounds> and watch west, greasy you've go out here <a new waypoint> and spot anything that's heading our way. Bernout, get C4 on the flag and then hang out up here <waypoint> and watch our backs."

ah.. here it is... a good shot from spies a while back where I did just that... we didn't see action for a bit, but guys were focused and having fun, not just twiddling thumbs waiting to be shot at.

If it is really quiet at the flag, another option that is available to you is to create a fireteam and send 2 or 3 guys off to help at another flag or to do aggressive forward defense. Sometimes I'll even send everyone but myself counting on the fact that they can spawn in on me if the flag we're defending is attacked. You can get burned doing this but it can be a good compromise nonetheless.

    Re: Ticket Bleed

When defending you dont have to all sit bunched up on a far flag. You can spread out your guys as sentry points or scouts. You can send a couple guys out on "special" missions depending on the map. For example if you think defending the construction yard on Kharkiv is boring then send out a couple guys to mine the roads and help cover the parking garages side door while having your guys all under orders to fall back if an enemy is spotted.

IMO the best defense is an agressive one.

    Snicker. Trust me...it's an "attack".
