Re: Locked Squads
I play to have fun, and to win. In that order.
If I played purely to win, I would punch in first.
OP does sound horribly elitist, but whatever, its not like I was going to get invited to that 8th grade birthday party anyway.

Re: Locked Squads
I don't find the OPs position elitist, i find it codependent. He needs other people in order to have fun, his enjoyment of the game is dependent on other people's actions. I am not a psychologist, but I suspect there are bigger problems than just microphoneaphobia.

Re: Locked Squads
pretty sure the 1stMIP was all about voip usage.. there was simply no way you can achieve their level of organization without a mic. back when I didn't have a mic I avoided joining their squads because its simply too hard to provide the communication necessary.
yes I know players without a mic can communicate really well and often just as well - I was one of them for a long time. but for some things there's no substitute. some players will read the chat all the time, others never notice... its the same thing some people will have and other people don't - situational awareness.
not going to comment on whether I think the OP is right or not.
and is robocop STILL playing? amazing. dude can probably shotgun anything that moves now.

Re: Locked Squads
I find sometimes voip is distracting when certain folks go on and on about unimportant details. I like to take a break from voip occasionally, I'll still lead squads and only talk to correct people. I see where you are coming from, but maybe before you get to the point of a meltdown you should make a post about your frustrations first. I think a few well placed PM'S might of gotten your frustrations out before it became a major issue. I'd love to teach people on the server, but when ever I start a squad it fills up almost immediately. So I've tried to step back for a few, but I guess Ill start locking my squads and invite people to learn. I guess the reality is that it falls on the SM members shoulders to support the mod, the server, the community, and teach all the people all the time.
I can't get certain regulars to follow my orders half the time so what says I'll get some sniper to go my way for an entire round. I guess I'll just start kicking people from my squads, which I hate to do.

Re: Locked Squads
I cant understand about half the people on VOIP and still cant get my darn mic to work on BF2. So VOIP is a non issue to me sadly.
