Re: Nice job TG
+1
The problem with the combined arms is you really need to make sure it is balanced, especially for air with armor being a close second. Green Acres was a classic example of this. Our team got cremated by air and it wasn't a whole lot of fun to be on the receiving end of that.As for all Inf, I play BF games because I like the vehicle dynamics. While I enjoy Inf focused maps, I really want to see combined arms maps as well as that is what BF is about. My suggestion would be to do a good mix with something like 1 inf focused map (Fallen, Orel, Kharkiv, Kerch, etc), 1 vehicle focused map (Matador, Aces, Sambir, H2H, etc), and then finally a map that really mixes well (Dnister River, Carp Mt, Green Acres, etc). I think they tried that today and it worked out well.
Quite honestly, I didn't have a whole lot of fun for most of the scrim. Some of that was my own game play being horrible, influenced in part by being out of my infantry element for a good part of it. I just didn't have a good day. The other part was the quality of the opposition. My nightmares of going against a squad of 12th aren't going to go away anytime soon.

Re: Nice job TG
It was good fun.
Mantis has clearly studied those maps to understand strategic point of each of them, well done Mantis.
Counter did a great job, thanks for stepping up to the plate.

Re: Nice job TG
Much thanks to the organizers for all their efforts. It was a good time...although since I'm a guy who usually plays PR there were several moments in the match where I thought I'd have a seizure from the non-stop sensory overload of action! Also, much kudos to my COs & SLs on Creeping Death...and thanks to my squaddies on Melitopol and Kharkiv for their, ummm..."patience"

General comments:
I agree with Greasy that a 3 round match makes more sense...keeps more players longer.
Also, RockFord seemed to have my name for the match. He killed me so many times I was beginning to think he had something personal against goats! Maybe a bad "rack of lamb" experience at a restaurant once
Specific Comments:
Yalta
I fear this map. My experiences at Canal make me think about meat products being fed into a grinder, producing hamburger mixed with BDU threads. That said, squadding with Troublemsome was a blast, and the fighting was constant. It was an awesome time, and I was stunned that our aggressive rollout took us quickly onto the attack west of Canal. The squad really seemed to function cohesively to me. Some great counter attacks by the OpFor though made us retreat a few times, but mostly I felt like we had the initiative and were on the attack.
Green Acres
Back flag defense at Vineyard as part of Namebots helo squad with Fighter and Homer. We were floating about most of the time. I wrenched a few vehicles, tried to provide some APC support, but mostly we just floated wherever we were needed. I didn't feel like I contributed significantly to the team effort, although we did do our part in keeping the back flag safe when the OpFor did parachute in a squaddie to flip it. We responded pretty quickly to that bit of action. Otherwise, it was roll forward and support efforts elsewhere. Kudos to Namebot for very clear and concise directives while double-timing as "death from above".
Depot
I was SL'ng a "river defence" squad on this one. Essentially, me and 3 guys from the 12th (Project, Elmeistro, Fallen). Our intial roll-out plan was changed about 30 seconds prior to go-live, but that's part of the fun sometimes. I essentially saw my role as providing a spawn point for the guys...they are deadly, and keeping them in the fight was the best use of my time
Although, I did get to kill Blonov which was satisfying for me. The fight at Bridge was intense...but I think I had the most fun when we joined the attack at Fuel Depot. We ended up being the only ones there for quite awhile...lot's of fun watching what havoc we caused there...lasted way longer than I expected.
Kharkiv
I was SL'ng again on this map...it was kind of a mess. The UKR got some key mines down that heavily disrupted our roll-out plans and cost us the initiave. After that, it seemed like we did a tour of the map moving from flag to flag trying to stem bleed. I didn't really get much coordinated with the squad, and it seemed I just couldn't get to the CO's objectives fast enough
Much kudos to |TG|Blood for doing a great job hanging onto and securing Docks after we captured it.
Anyway, much thanks to everyone for the good games!
Cheers.

Re: Nice job TG
My 2yr old woke up from a late nap in full freak-out mode, so I had to miss Kharkiv (unfortunately - this was the map I was looking forward to most).
We had some bad intel to start (regarding which armor spawned where) so the first two rounds were a little screwy:
Yalta
I SL'd the armor squad for UKR, with mantis, khan, and myself in tanks, diehard and fallen wrenching, and nambot in the dingo. (namebot was scheduled to grab the BMP that spawns at powerlines, but it didin't for some reason... ssm maybe? <shrug> We executed the plan to the letter, with the main focus being to hold the bridge north of canal. That bridge is THE key to the map: you dominate the canal flag and approaches, while at the same time protecting back flags. We always had at least one tank up there - sometimes two. The other two tanks were on the low ground by canal. Our objective was support from a distance - and we fulfilled that pretty well. I started the round 30-2 or something silly like that - mostly HEAP-ravaging squads attacking canal. Strangely, we never got threatened while on the bridge - I expected USMC to try pushing us off that highly valuable (tactically) real-estate, but it never really happened. (Of course, I must admit, that it IS much easier for UKR to hold the bridge, given the highground on the North East side of the map)
Green Acres
This round I lead a four man squad of Elmeistro, sawviper, and draeh. We started out with a touch-n-go helo insertion at silos, compliments of Namebot. We capped the flag, put out mines and waited for the tank to spawn... which it never did. The left us in a bad spot - 4 guys in a flag close to the main with no armor. We did the best we could against attacks of 3-4 armor pieces at a time. Fortunately, our CoC was working flawlessly, and each time I requested air support from our CO (troublesome), bombs were typically on-target within 20-30 seconds. Regardless, we eventually we got overrun there. For the rest of the round, we were basically tasked with being annoying - so the four of us hit silo's again a couple times, then led a ridiculous cap of monastery (rediculous as it was 4 against what felt like 100). We managed to cap it, but weren't able to hold it for more than a minute... good times.
Melitopol
IMHO, this map kinda sucks in a scrim environment, as there's little tactically that can be done. It's "hold your back flag, and smash heads at the bridge". So, it should be no surprise that this was a bit of a snoozer for me. I was in a 3 man "bridge support" squad with mantis and namebot. mantis and namebot were in armor most of the round, and I wrenched and hit the flag whenever another friendly squad came in. <yawn>
anyway - it was definitely good times - much respect to project and khaerus for getting things hooked up!!

Re: Nice job TG
I agree on melitopol being a bit of a snoozer. It seems it was mainly meant as a demo of the destructible statics. There is a bit of maneuvering you can do around the edges of the OOBs, but that didn't seem to be in either teams game plan.

Re: Nice job TG
I actually had more fun on Melitopol during the scrim than otherwise. Maybe it was just the nature of our squad but we did a bit of everything and I never got bored. GoatBoy did a good job moving around the map and it seemed we stayed busy most of the time.

Re: Nice job TG
I could have sworn there was an APC that spawned there. Maybe on the 32p? Or maybe it changed in V2.5? Or I just screwed up? The latter is most likely.

Re: Nice job TG
We couldnt even get close to the North Bridge. Anything that came towards you freaks, you obliterated it. At least we blew both sections with C4 but that didnt stop the havoc you were puttin on us at canal. Everytime we were going to attack the tank, troublesome4u was attacking the Apartment flag so we had to defend the flag. I was baffled all round.

Re: Nice job TG
It was very much my plan, but the first squad I asked to do it, the SL argued his way out of it, the second and third couldn't get transport coordinated, and by the time Goat got across the river to the N of Depot, a tank had seen what we were trying to do and took them out. They got to Depot anyway, but it seemed like a lot of guys were stuck in molasses as far as response times. It was a bit frustrating, but I know my CO job left something to be desired as well.
I wish it was clear to me what all the trouble was with getting the d*** APC across the river to the North.

maybe it was just me, but whenever I looked up to see who killed me it would say.

It was a great scrim, even though we lost.

Re: Nice job TG
I've never seen Mantis dominate the sky like he did throughout this entire game.   :crash:

Good job to The_eFlight (Green Acres map) for keeping our squad focused, on the attack, and most importantly... highly motivated.
Thanks for telling us about this scrim during one of the random games last week. I actually set my calender reminder to alert me at 3pm Pacific Standard Time... So when I happened to sign on early and saw all these people playing, I figured it was some sort of pre game warm up, lol. I missed the first game, then spent the second game trying to figure out how this "teamwork" was supposed to work. This experience gave me a new perspective on team work not only at the squad level, but the entire team as a whole. During the third game (Melitopol map)... when I finally settled in and started getting the hang of it, I noticed that the other team was pouring thru the north bridge, so I alerted our team to the need for Mines at that bridge... Within moments, we had five AT'ers rush over there to mine the heck out of the bridge! I have never seen such a high level of efficiency. Although, I should have been more specific and ask for two players to be assigned to that bridge for spotting and keeping the bridge constantly mined. The other squads did such a good job at Fuel Depot, that it allowed our Armor squad and other squads to focus on the Bridge outpost. Not having to worry so much about the north bridge allowed me attack Bridge Outpost more aggressively... I drove my tank ONTO the bridge almost a dozen times to try to assist the other squads in capturing the Bridge... as well as bombarding tanks and APC's on the opposite end... etc. I felt we gelled as a team (Unbreakable Mugs) and that we coulda shoulda won on this map... still, it was a close and thrilling game. Big thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this scrim possible.
btw, where do we go to watch the game highlights / replays?

The BR file links are listed above in mantis' post.
My bad Axis, didn't realize you tried to have people get around the outside. I went for a joyride around the long way behind their base and scored me a tank kill as well as trying to help hold their depot flag when I saw an opportunity.
Draeh, I think I gave that bad intel on the APC. I could have sworn one was there. After the scrim I thought about it though, and I never recall one spawning at apartments for US ever before so it must have been my bad memory.|TG-12th| Namebot
