Re: Ranked Point of Existence
nice cyco...
Its funny, I usually end the round with exactly half the score Test ends with... round after round. like clock work... like I'm HiTest jr.
you can get a killer revive rate following Test on the 'bench formation' attack on lumbermill.

Re: Ranked Point of Existence
That happens to be one of my all time favorite moments of PoE.
A quick note on how the "Bench Formation" came to be:
We were getting destroyed by the opposition one night on 16p Orel. I was SLing and I know this may sound oxymoronic but, I was trying to be tactical, attacking the Church Flag from all directions. My squad stuck with me and tried very hard but the defense there was way too much for us too handle. With about 5 min to go in the match, Bench belted over Voip " Test, the heck with tactics im walking right up the middle of the road on my way to Lumbermill." Brilliant. I ordered the squad to move out and follow lead. In which case they did what every SM should do and thats follow orders. My whole squad walked right up the West Road and capped Lumbermill without a shot going off. I friggin laughed my butt off. Heck we almost capped them out after being down say 150 plus tickets.
Its moments like this that make me play as much as i do and BTW i just looked its alot.
Well done Bench!

That was classic.
And, I agree on the personal stats - it is helpful to see what you are doing right, or wrong.

Re: Ranked Point of Existence
Stats have always been a part of the BF world, even in 1942. I believe the issue is more with the rewards and ranks than the actual stats.
Here is a site that has been around for a long long time tracking 1942 and I used to use it a lot when 1942 was all I played back in the day.

Re: Ranked Point of Existence
The thing I don't like about the stats is there is no guage for a player/squad defending a back flag or spotting or being the guienie pig for the squad to flush out the enemy... ie teamwork. If we sit back defending patiently, not getting any points until a few loners or a squad sneak around, while the frontline squads, choppers and jets rack up the kills/points, many times never taking a flag or pushing forward, we can wind up low on the points total and ppm even though we played our role effectively for the round. I have no problem with that role or low points if I followed orders or effectively led my sqaud - which many times entails falling back to serve as a good spawn point for my squad members to attack from.
That's not to say high point leaders aren't effective, we know they can be and the top guys are extremely talented, but how many times have you seen a guy way above everyone with 250 points and his team lost...
I used to worry about my points and ppm, but now I don't and instead worry about supporting my squad, like the good medics, support(ammo), engineers and other kits used to keep the squad and mission intact. Not that I'm good yet at any of those
. Besides, I purposefully die a lot just to stat pad Counter's revival score...
My vote is Nay on the Rankings. Like someone said earlier, it may encourage Vanilla type behavior rather than the teamwork TG has been promoting.
It would be nice if the ribbon system was resumed (cough-cough) to reward the TG play...

Re: Ranked Point of Existence
hey zippy,
no, I hear that... I think the gang can attest, I've not really changed how I play the game... I don't play here to be 1337. I like the people.
all I'm trying to say is, its nice to see you're getting better at something... when it sometimes feels like you're not.
I too, say boo to a 'real' ranked server. the TG rank in the world is displayed by their effectiveness in into 'clan' matches. I simply find this other mechanism / site. 'helpful' is all.
but no worries. I'll be throwing up Defend Markers like Paul Pierce throwing up a gang sign.

Re: Ranked Point of Existence
I'm #1 because I could give a **** how many kills or points I have. Play for the win and the satisfaction of holding that power plant flag against a 2 squad onslaught, you'll feel much better than walking away with 100 points or whatever which will be completely forgotten 5 seconds after the new round starts.
I did used to be a huge stat whore in the early BF2 days but now I can't stand it.

I'm 99th which is only 98 behind Namebot.
I played on a "ranked" POE server the other day. I wouldn't say the server was full of asshats, but I can say that it was not as fun as playing on the TG server.

Re: Ranked Point of Existence
Now wait a minute,,,,I'm usually the one on the other side shooting you!! LOL!
Opinion,,,Ranked TG server is a NO-GO on my gauge. The teamwork will all go to crap. The fun will be taken out of it and I'll be damned if I would revive a player that wont thank me for the revive and then take my chopper that I just got out of to revive him. Not to mention all the TK's for vehicles and the bunny hopping.
If you have the itch,,,go play a pub server and watch the no teamwork at it's finest. You couldn't command a squad in a pub server. Everyone would be too worried about their stats.
I don't care about KDR (kill/death ratio). I just want my squad to take the flag I asked them to take. If they died 5 times each taking it, well so be it. At least we took our objective. I don't even care if you aren't that good at this game as long as you are an asset to the squad, I'll have ya. There are new guys out there that would love to be in a TG tagged players squad just to get the experience and gain some knowledge. That's the person I want in my squad. If I ask for ammo or a med pack and he/she is there,,,I'm happy.
Well,,,let me add this...I've noticed at night that the men have been coming out to play. Good players have been trying to keep the 16 vs.16 and 8 vs. 8 rounds balanced. I like to be on the losing team. It makes me feel better when we win! Generally there is more action, on the losing side, due to constant attacks.
Sorry for the hijack and rant! Kudos to all you that make TG unranked, team driven servers possible. This is home for me.
