Re: Ntw 20 amr
thats interesting... everyone knows I'm not a guns guy...
what I find interesting is how the AMR is intended to be used... and how its POE used.
IRL - Taking out big targets, assets...
POE - Taking out my tiny little self, liability
Park Bench
Doing laps of Lumber Yard, waiting impatiently for another POE Scrim.

Re: Ntw 20 amr
Looks like maybe we should add a lot more recoil to it in the game.

Re: Ntw 20 amr
Actually, that's not really true. There is some international law regarding high caliber weapons used against personnel, so the dodge is that .50 cal sniper rifles and such are AMRs and not AP rifles. The .50 BMG, for example, has excellent long range flight characteristics due to it's weight and speed, which is why it is used for long range shots.

Re: Ntw 20 amr
Hmm, don't really know, I'm kind of hearing it secondhand from a guy I know. Don't get me wrong, the .50 and similar weapons are very capable for things like EOD, soft targets, stationary aircraft, trucks, stuff like that. I do think though, especially for a modern army, that it sort fills a niche that really doesn't need to be filled. If you need an airplane in the hangar taken out, then bomb it. Even a large hole and damage to major components can be repaired, while a JDAM on top of the hangar is guaranteed destroyed target. Personally I think that the whole AMR designation is a budget/procurement dodge to get the long range AP/safe distance EOD weapon that the Army wanted. The key to getting projects approved nowadays is to claim all manner of multi-role/joint forces application. Kind of like how they swore the F-111 could be a fighter too.

Re: Ntw 20 amr
What he's prob referring to is the UN agreements on calibers. The US army uses the 5.56 and 7.62 rounds. Russia uses the 7.62 and some others. Odd thing is, is that we can't use their 7.62 in our weapons but they can use ours. Wonderful design flaws. I can remember when I was in the service (many many moons ago) and this being explained to us. Saw something interesting the other day. the 5.56 round is really just a beefed up .22cal round. Difference being the size of the casing and slightly longer bullet. Some of you may not realize that the 5.56 and 7.62 rounds are designed to tumble on impact instead of the projectile exploding. Another UN thing I think. The basis is to "wound" and not "kill".
(I may be totally wrong, but I believe its what I remember on the rounds.)

Anyone watch the Mythbusters episode where Jamie fires the .50 cal Barrett in to a swimming pool?

Re: Ntw 20 amr
I love that mythbuster show, I was amazed to see more pentreation in the water by a 9mm bullet compared to a .50 round.
