Re: ...for those who know me, and those who dont...
Hmm. Ive seen to run into a small problem. I currently have Vista, so I was unsure whether I would have any problems in installing BF2. I dl´d the demo, and sure enough I am unable to run the demo. When I try to install it I get "This game has only been tested on WinXP(32bit)". Not sure how to get around it. If anyone has a solution, can you please post here or PM me?
Would really love to get out there.

Just hit OK and go through it. It is just a warning. I have had it installed on Vista 32 and now 64. No problems. Don't forget to install the BF2 1.41 patch, then the 2 POE 2.5 files. Make sure to install the core POE 2.5 files first. The files usually say 1 of 2 and 2 of 2 to identify them. Good luck.

I do, but it doesnt install, it just sits minimized and nothing happens. I cant even maximize the window. So it never get installed. Ive even added the demo to the "safe" list on my firewall. I have to open the task manager to close the file down. I guess that if the demo wont work, a bought game will not work either. Any advice?

Did you try to "run as administrator" in Vista?

You might need to edit the setup.ini file with ORCA tool (search and D/L) to disable (remove) the 'OS type' check. It was necessary for me to do that with Adobe CS2. You might do some searches on how to do it first though, I can only remember how to do it by 'feel'
I know I didn't have any issues such as this with my BF2 when I installed it on V64.
AND WELCOME BACK!
EDIT:
Boy my post was off, it was AutoCAD that needed installing after editing with ORCA - But it should be similar, or you can use it as a jumping off point -
# Download and install Orca from Microsoft.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255905
# Copy the installation files to your hard drive or a network folder.
# Backup the files ACA.msi and Setup.ini
# Edit the ACA.msi with Orca and delete the action found in the table "InstallExecuteSequence" that is called "CheckFor64BitOS" Delete the same line under table "CustomAction"
# Save and close the ACA.msi
# Edit the Setup.ini with Notepad. Delete the line under "#==================== Platform Requirement" that is labeled "PLATFORM=NO_WOW_64_PROCESS"
# Double-click the Setup.exe and you should be able to install without any problems.

Uh, guess since I am not really cpu savvy, the above seems complicated. So I have to dl SDK to get Orca to work. Then back up (create copies?)
Hmm, guess there was no easy way huh? Ill do it in the morning when I can think str8.
jb - yes i tried to run as a administrator. Didnt work either.
P8riot and jb, APPRECIATE the help.

Does the demo still work?
How long have you let the install sit there? Once you start the install, give it at least 20 minutes before shutting it down. For some reason this happens on some systems.

Re: ...for those who know me, and those who dont...
The demo was made way before vista existed. I would skip that, and just go right to regular BF2 and see if that works before patching and installing POE

Hey DaV,
Make sure your UAC is off. Start>Control Panel>User Accounts>Turn User Account Control on or off>Uncheck the box Use User Account Control (UAC)...
Try these steps for BF2:
1. Uninstall the BF2 Demo and all folders/files that say BF2 (check the Documents folder for BF2 also and delete it), run a registry cleaner - Ccleaner is a great one & it's free ( http://www.ccleaner.com/download). Restart PC.
2. Make Sure you have all the Vista updates including SP1 and thereafter. There was one a while back that had a patch for older games.
3. Install BF2, if it fails from the BF2 install screen, then try start>computer>CD/DVD drive where BF2 disc is >right click the disc>open>right click Setup.exe and run as admin. You should get it running and installing. After install, get patches to 1.41 and Punkbuster (UPDATE IT TOO!). If this works, then install POE 2 like JB said (v2.5 HAS 2 PARTS)... http://www.tacticalgamer.com/battlef...poe2-free.html or http://www.pointofexistence.com/poe2full.php - Thereis also a map pack v2_ ( http://planetbattlefield.gamespy.com....Detail&id=140)
4. It looks like you know how to go to your Firewall settings to add BF2 to the list: Start>Control Panel>Windows Firewall>Left Menu: Allow a program through Windows Firewall - so make sure you check BF2, BF2Voipserver, poe2p, and all the Pnkbstr boxes. I check every game or program related boxes whenever I install new ones - xfire too.
5.
a) Find the BF2.exe in the EA games folder (Program Files/EA Games/Battlefield 2... right click on BF2.exe and click run as Admin. Then right click again, properties, and click Compatibilty and check the box Run this program... and on the drop down menu pick Windows XP (Service Pack 2), then click on the Security tab>Advanced>Permissions and make sure it says Allow for the entries.
If you use a BF2 shortcut on your desktop, then right click>properties>Shortcut>Advanced>check box for run as Admin. By doing that last step, you won't have to worry about running as admin. any more. Then also in the same window click the Compatibility tab and check box Run this program... Drop Window>Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
b) Do the same steps as 5a(above), but ONLY for the POE2 shortcut. (POE2 Shortcut>right click>properties>Shortcut>Advanced>check box for run as Admin. Then also in the same window click the Compatibility tab and check box Run this program... Drop Window>Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
That should do it. I know it's a pain, but once your done with the steps you don't have to worry about it. Mine works very well. I now like Vista better than XP.
Good Luck and let me know how it goes,
-Zip
Note: You may want to use the Shortcut trick (File Shortcut>right click>properties>Shortcut>Advanced>check box for run as Admin.) on all your shortcuts. This way you won't have to worry about the Running as Admin. problem.

Hey Vinci! Good to hear from you again, Birthday Buddy! Looking forward to getting together and popping some caps. You're gonna LOVE the changes in POE2.
From the brother you always wished you'd never had,
